Lionel Messi Injury: A Messi-less Miami to face DC United
Inter Miami have started the season on a high as they lead the Eastern Conference in the MLS. In the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Miami displayed their star power as well as they tore Nashville apart over the two legged tie in the Round of 16. However, as the David Beckham owned club arrives at Audi Field to face DC United, they will be without the services of captain fantastic Lionel Messi. The Argentinian star sustained a muscle injury at the start of March, but returned to the side for the second leg against Nashville. Unfortunately 50 minutes into his excellent performance against Nashville, he was subbed off as a precaution.
Now manager Tata Martino has shared that a Lionel Messi injury will see a Messi-less Miami encounter DC United. The club confirmed that Leo has a muscle injury and won’t travel with the club to Audi Field to face DC United. It seems that Lionel Messi has sustained a small hamstring injury in his right leg. While the injury hasn’t caused a massive issue, the football legend continues to suffer from discomfort. The injury will definitely hamper Miami’s chances to achieve victory as the club has struggled without him recently. Inter Miami faced Montreal last weekend without Leo Messi and lost the game 2-3 at home in Chase Stadium.

The 36 year old Argentinian’s injury has cast doubt regarding his participation in the international break for Argentina. The world cup winners are scheduled to play El Salvador and Costa Rica in the international break as they prepare for the Copa America in June. However, for now the Argentinian squad hasn’t been ruled out for the international break. While it seems unlikely that he will participate against El Salvador, he might play for a few minutes against Costa Rica.
Lionel Messi will definitely return for Inter Miami after the international break ahead of Miami’s quarter final tie against Monterrey in the Champions Cup. This season, Lionel Messi has accumulated 5 goals and 2 assists in 5 games this campaign for Inter Miami across all competitions.
