Lewis Miley Injury Update: What happened to the Newcastle United midfielder and when will he return?
Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley has suffered a back injury while on duty with England U-20. Early reports indicate that the player will be out of action for a few weeks at least with Newcastle waiting for a medical assessment over the player’s injury
It will be a big blow for Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, with Miley being one of the rare glimpses of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy season. The Magpies are currently 10th in the Premier League standings with 40 points after 28 games, a considerable drop from their fourth-place finish last time out. Newcastle were also booted out of Europe after finishing at the bottom of their UEFA Champions League group, which consisted of Paris-Saint Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan.
Miley, aged 17, broke into the first team this season and has been one of the more important players in Eddie Howe’s midfield in recent months. The teenager has clocked 2063 minutes of action in 30 games for the Magpies, making 17 Premier League appearances in the process. He has chipped in with two goals and three assists in the process.
England U-20 beat Czech Republic U-20 3-1 in the game where Miley suffered a back injury.
Newcastle United backing Eddie Howe to lead the team despite a poor campaign
Eddie Howe had done a fantastic job in leading the Magpies into Europe with a fantastic campaign last time out. Newcastle garnered 71 points in 38 games in the Premier League season, while also reaching the final of the EFL Cup where they lost to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. However, with the team’s form dwindling this season, rumors have surfaced about the English boss’ future at the club.
A few weeks ago, Daily Mail beat reporter Craig Hope reported that the club hierarchy intends to continue supporting Howe. Hope tweeted:
“Reiterated today that Eddie Howe is the man Newcastle are invested in & believe in for the long term. Plans in the making for a busy summer.”
Germany national team boss Julian Nagelsmann has also been linked with the job.
