Robert Lewandowski offered to lower wages for FC Barcelona
One of the best strikers in the past decade, and a Bayern Munich legend, Robert Lewandowski offered to do something for his present club FC Barcelona, which ought to win every Cule heart. The No. 9 offered to lower his wages so that his club would be able to abide by La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules.
Lewandowski is presently contracted with FC Barcelona till 2026.
FC Barcelona have been struggling with financial constraints for the past few seasons now. The Spanish giants had to let go of many big players and were forced to sell some in the past few seasons, to make room and adjust with the league’s FFP rules. This time too, for just registering Dani Olmo, the club had to let go of a lot of their stars, including midfielder IIkay Gundogan, who performed best last season.
The club President Joan Laporta recently said in a press conference that Lewandowski was willing to take a cut in his wages to make FCB financially viable to register Olmo. As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, the legend was willing to reduce his salary, by extending his contract till 2027. His current contract expires on June 30, 2026.

Lewandowski’s offer was praised by Joan Laporta, however, the Barca president convinced him that the sacrifice was not needed, and also wished him the best season ahead. Laporta said (quoting Barca Blaugranes), “I really appreciate it, but I told him it wasn’t necessary. He’s very committed to the club and he’s also demanding with the team, with himself and with his teammates. Wishing Lewandowski, he further added, “We’ve gotten a good performance out of him and I’m sure that this will be Lewandowski’s best year.”
Robert Lewandowski continues to serve as the first-choice striker at FC Barcelona. He has featured in all the four games in La Liga that the Cules took part in. He has been an integral part of their victories, scoring four goals and providing one assist in those games. The club has no alternate for him, except for new signing, youngster Pau Victor at times.
