Leicester City Secures Promotion Back to the Premier League
Leicester City assured Premier League promotion as Leeds United crumbles against QPR
Leicester City have secured promotion back to the Premier League from the EFL Championship. The Foxes have been able to do it with still two games remaining for them in the 2023-2024 Championship season. In their previous outing in the league, they defeated Southampton by a crunching scoreline of 5-0.
They will play Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers in their remaining fixtures. However, Leicester’s promotion was aided by Leeds United dropping points against QPR (Queens Park Rangers), who defeated the Yorkshire-based side by 4-0 to jeopardize their automatic promotion hopes, meanwhile securing the promotion for Leicester City on mathematical terms by the points tally.
The Foxes currently stand on the top of the EFL Championship table with 94 points to their name having played 44 matches. Leeds United and Ipswich Town hold the second and third place respectively with 90 and 89 points to their tally. In contrast to Leicester’s two, Leeds has one game remaining, while Ipswich has three games left in their season.
Even if Leeds wins the last match of the campaign, they won’t surpass the cumulative points tally of Leicester City. On the other font, if Ipswich manages to win their remaining three fixtures, and leapfrog the Foxes on the table considering the midlands side earns a total of less than 97 points, still in that situation Ipswich and Leicester will remain the top two teams getting the automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
What Leicester City brings to the Premier League in terms of the 2024-2025 season?
Leicester City still has a great deal of quality to pose a threat to the Premier League sides when they return to the top tier of English soccer for the 2024-2025 season. With players like Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, and Wout Faes, the Foxes are well-equipped in almost every department on the field. Not to forget that they were the Premier League Champions for the 2015-2016 season when they shocked everyone to lift the trophy.
So, they have the required experience to battle it out in one of the top leagues in football but where Leicester lacked last season was their failure to back Brendan Rogers for most of the season in terms of players’ transfer budget. Their leniency on that font did strike back to haunt them during the later part of the season. Surely they can’t do the same with their current manager Enzo Maresca.
