Leicester City could sign Ruud van Nistelrooy to replace Chelsea-bound Enzo Maresca
Maresca was announced as the new Blues manager this week
Leicester City are reportedly eyeing Ruud van Nistelrooy as a potential replacement for Enzo Maresca, who left the club to join Chelsea this week. The Italian manager guided the Foxes back into the Premier League by virtue of winning the EFL Championship, but the Blues came knocking and he jumped ships.
Ahead of their first season back into the top-flight, Leicester are in a fix again, as the manager’s position is vacant, and the search is ongoing. However, there could be a silver lining as Nistelrooy has emerged as a potential successor to Maresca.
The former Manchester United star was last seen at PSV Eindhoven, whom he guided to a Johan Cruyff Shield in 2022 and then to a KNVB Cup the following year. However, he quit soon after, citing a lack of support from the board.
Nistelrooy, 47, hasn’t taken up a job anywhere since then, and Leicester are looking to bring him to the King Power stadium, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Leicester looking to become a top-flight force again under Nistelrooy
With a return to Premier League sealed, Leicester City are looking to establish themselves in the top-flight once again and Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appointment could go a long way in achieving that. The former Dutch international has proved to be a good manager too, following his spell at Eindhoven, and he could bring glory days back to King Power stadium.
