Leganes 2-3 Real Madrid Player Ratings – Real Madrid edge past Leganes thanks to a late winner

Real Madrid book a ticket into the semi-final of the Copa del Rey after a nervy 3-2 win, thanks to goals from Modric, Endrick and Gonzalo Garcia. Their next opponent for the semi final are yet to be determined.

Leganes started the match brightly, creating a big chance two minutes in as Diego Garcia’s bending shot evaded the post by just a few inches. Oscar Rodriguez also sent a header wide around 17 minutes in, failing to convert Altimira’s positive cross from close range. Madrid grew into the game as the half progressed, with Modric finding the opener off Rodrygo’s rolled pass into space across the edge of the area in the 18th minute.

Madrid doubled their lead seven minutes later as Brahim’s touch deflected off Nastasic and into Endrick’s path, with the Brazilian finding the net from close range. Leganes continued pushing for a goal to get themselves back in the game and were gifted a golden opportunity as young Jacobo Ramon gave away a penalty via a handball in the 39th minute. Juan Cruz made no mistake from the spot, slotting past Lunin to give Leganes a chance.

Leganes made their chances pay in the second half, as Juan Cruz score one comfortably via a regulation training set routine, linking up well with Darko Brasanac. The entry of Vinicius made things tick for the visitors but he missed plenty of easy chances despite creating them out of thin air. While it looked to go into extra time, Brahim Diaz did well to send a floated cross towards the near post, which the youngster Gonzalo Garcia headed into the top corner with ease.

Altimira: 6/10 –  The most fouled player in the match, he offered plenty of defensive actions tonight, but was beaten by Diaz during the final goal.

Rosier: 5.5/10 – He was toyed with by the attackers of the visitors, especially Vinicius Jr, who found it very easy to breeze past him.

Gonzalez: 5.5/10 – He had a very difficult time tracking Vinicius in the second half and got booked rightfully for a silly challenge.

Nastasic: 6/10 – It was unfortunate for him to deflect the ball into the path of Endrick for the second goal.

Midfielders

Tapia: 6/10 – Playing as a defensive midfielder, he was involved in the passing routine during the penalty-winning sequence for the hosts.

Noupa: 6/10 – He was unable to dictate the tempo and desperately tried to score one from a distance.

Rodriguez: 6/10 – He had a chance to get himself on the scoresheet, but failed to do so as he missed a header.

Forwards

Cruz: 8.5/10 – The hero of the night for the hosts, taking his penalty well and scoring another fantastic goal from open play too.

Garcia: 4.5/10 – A night to forget for the forward, who looked completely toothless and was losing duels against a make-shift defence.

Brasanac: 7.5/10 – Outside of linking up well with Cruz for the second goal, he made some threatening runs into the box

Valverde: 7/10 – He made some good runs into the box to attack occasionally and was also solid defensively.

Asencio: 6/10 – He could have done better to defend during the second goal, as the ball deflected past him.

Ramon: 6/10 – A tough night for the young centreback, who conceded the foul that gave away the penalty to Leganes.

Mendy: 6/10 – He was not threatening on the attack and looked poor defensively at times too.

Midfielders

Modric: 7.5/10 – A nice goal to start things off tonight for the captain and it played a key role in the second one too.

Tchouameni: 6/10 – Playing in a double pivot, he played as a screen to a young, make-shift defense of the visitors.

B. Diaz: 8/10 – He looked in sync with other attackers, especially after the entry of Vinicius Jr in the second half. He deservedly got a direct goal contribution and it was no better time than a late winner.

Guler: 7/10 – He was linking up well with other attackers to create space and progress the ball around the pitch.

Endrick: 7/10 – He took his chance well to score the second goal of the night, but outside of that, he looked a bit wasteful.

Rodrygo: 6.5/10 – Despite getting an assist, he was subbed off early in the second half itself to keep his forwards fresh.
