Latest update on the injury suffered by Lionel Messi ahead of September International Break
As the Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami prepares to take on Chicago Fire in an away clash on Sunday at Soldier Field Stadium, without their Argentine talisman Lionel Messi. Last week, Messi returned to team training following a couple of months of absence and was captured participating in the club’s open practice session.
Previously, Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino hinted that the forward is on the brink of his comeback in the upcoming remaining league phase matches. However, he hasn’t travelled with the squad for this game. MLS Player Status Report listed the 37-year-old is out from the Matchay 30 actions due to Ankle injury.
On Friday during the press conference, Miami’s boss provided an update on the much-awaited Lionel Messi’s comeback. However, the Argentine boss didn’t reveal whether the World Cup winner would be called up for the Chicago fixture.
“For several weeks now,” said, Martino “he’s been training with the ball, starting first with the medical team and physical trainers, and then gradually integrating into some parts of training with the group.”
“These are matters that are also discussed a lot with him, and it depends on how he’s feeling. It’s an injury that’s lasted over six weeks, so we need to stay calm and be absolutely sure.” the Miami boss added.
The Record Eigh-time Ballon Dor winner has been on the sidelines since suffering an ankle injury in the Copa America final. Apparently, fans will need to wait a few more weeks to catch the former Barcelona man play. Meanwhile, he also misses out on the national team call-up in the Upcoming International break.
