Kylian Mbappe Transfer: Paris Saint-Germain learnt about the French forward’s departure video from social media

Despite signing a one year contract extension last summer, reports had indicated that Kylian Mbappe still wanted to leave Paris Saint-Germain to pursue a new challenge. The French forward has spent the last six years with the Ligue 1 giants and has thrived for them since his move from Monaco. So much so, that Mbappe has netted 255 goals and 108 assists for the club.

He has also led them to several Ligue 1 titles, a Champions League final, and a semi-final in the same competition. But despite a presence of a star-studded squad that included Lionel Messi and Neymar at one point, PSG failed to win a Champions League crown. That combined with the attraction of several other projects saw Mbappe announce his decision to leave.

Kylian Mbappe Transfer: PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi learnt about the forward’s video from social media

In the video, the Frenchman confirmed his decision not to extend his time with PSG and that he will leave at the end of the 2023/24 season as a free-agent. The forward’s video caused havoc on social media and L’Equipe has now reported that PSG had no idea that Mbappe had created a video. The report has revealed that the Parisians alongside their president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi learnt about it from social media.

That hasn’t gone down well with the club and reports have indicated that the it’s reason why PSG do not wish to pay tribute to the club’s top scorer in his last home match. However, conflicting reports have indicated that the Ligue 1 champions do plan on doing something before the season is over as they respect what the forward has done for the club over the last six years.

“I’ve always said that I would speak with you when the time comes I wanted to announce to you all that it’s my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend (my contract) and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks. I will play my last game at Parc des Princes on Sunday,” Mbappe said in his statement.

“I have a lot of emotions. I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world, which allowed me to arrive here and have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure. To grow as a player, of course, by being alongside some of the best (players) in history. Some of the greatest champions. To meet a lot of people and to grow as a man as well with all the glory and the mistakes I’ve made.”
