BREAKING: Kevin De Bruyne out of Belgium squad for friendlies due to minor groin injury
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is set to miss out on action for Belgium during the upcoming international break.
This is as per journalist Fabrizio Romano, who provided an update via his socials.
Kevin De Bruyne Injury: Extent, and recovery timeline
Kevin De Bruyne’s minutes for Manchester City have been managed to a tee by manager Pep Guardiola since his return from injury. The midfielder was out for the first half of the season with a hamstring injury and only returned to proper action in January.
Now, Belgium head coach Domenico Tadesco has revealed De Bruyne has played the last few games nursing a groin issue. He said,
“He’s been playing with a minor groin issue in the last games. It’s better to give him time to recover well at City and have him ready for the Euros.”
Kevin De Bruyne played the entire 90 minutes in a 3-1 win against Manchester United earlier this month. He was then rested for Manchester City’s Champions League round of 16 second leg against Copenhagen.
The Belgian was fit enough to start against Liverpool and played for 69 minutes before being subbed off, much to everyone’s surprise. Tadesco’s latest update has now shed light on the mystery.
The Belgian’s stats this season
De Bruyne made a full return in January from a hamstring injury suffered in August last year. His first game back was against Newcastle United in the Premier League, whom he scored and assisted against.
The midfielder has been on an incredible creative run of form, assisting goals for his teammates for fun. He added to his spectacular catalogue of performances in his career with four assists in a single FA Cup game in a 6-2 win against Luton Town. Remarkably, all four were for Erling Haaland to score.
In just 14 appearances this season, Kevin De Bruyne has notched two goals and an eye-catching 13 assists. With at least 10 more games still to play, the Manchester City captain will look the end the season strong.
