Juventus Manager Massimiliano Allegri Warns his club about the New Champions League format
Massimiliano Allegri reportedly stated in one of his recent interviews about the probable difficulties that a club would face when the UCL format will be reshaped from the 2024-2025 season. He cautiously asserted –
“It’s normal that with the reform of the Champions League – which will be tough to win….almost impossible because the new format is like tennis – it’ll be between the top eight and it’ll be hard for one of them not to get to the final“.
The Italian manager further laid down the anticipated reason behind the Swiss Model adopted by UEFA for the Champions League. Allegri inserted
“They’re doing it to ensure the top eight get to the final, I think, because they want it to be a show”.
The New Champions League format
The new Champions League format will oversee 36 clubs taking part in the initial stage of the competition. However, presently only 32 clubs get to compete in the prestigious competition. The new format is in-famously termed as – ‘The Swiss Model’. Under the reframed structure of the tournament, teams will be playing a minimum of eight matches each.
The clubs will be playing half of their quota of eight matches at home, while the other half will be played by them away from their home ground. Also, as per reports, in the knock-out round of the tournament, the clubs will be seeded per their positions in the initial league phase, eliminating the country protection framework.
