Jurgen Klopp picks his side in Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho fiasco
Jurgen Klopp has taken a cheeky shot at Erik ten Hag and claimed that the manager should have got behind Jadon Sancho. The former Liverpool manager believes the Manchester United boss should have worked with the winger instead of sending out on loan.
Speaking at an event with around 10,000 Liverpool fans, Klopp claimed that he could not just part ways with a £80 million rated signing, saying the player is “useless” and sending him out on loan. He said:
“If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, the manager has to be the one behind the player. I cannot just buy into that ‘he’s useless’, like other clubs did by the way – buying a player for £80 million and then sending him out on loan!”
Klopp went on to take shots at Chelsea owners too, and claimed that he was delighted to have worked with Fenway Sports. He believes that the Blues made a mistake by sacking Mauricio Pochettino after he got them back playing well and said:
“We should be really happy we have them (Fenway Sports Group) and not guys who bought London clubs. I wouldn’t have survived a year at Liverpool (with them). Finally they (Chelsea) play football which everyone thinks ‘Oh, they might be back’ and then they sack the manager anyway. The owners (at Liverpool) feel responsible for the club. Are they the best in the world? I don’t know, I can’t say. But they worked really hard. I felt supported.”
Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag are yet to solve their issue
Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag fell out last year after the Englishman released a statement against the manager. The Dutchman claimed that he had dropped the winger from the matchday squad because of the performance in training.
Sancho was furious with the comments and revealed in a statement that he was being made a scapegoat. He went on to delete the post but refused to apologize, which led to him being thrown away from the first.
Borussia Dortmund took him on loan in the January window and he has now helped them get to the UEFA Champions League final. Erik ten Hag is yet to comment on the future and said:
“No, but we know Jadon Sancho is a fantastic football player, so that is not a surprise for us. That is not the issue.”
