Germany is ushering in a new era under Julian Nagelsmann
The last few years have been terrible for the German national side. From their shocking group stage exit in the 2022 World Cup to their premature exit from the 2020 Euros, the German national side has struggled massively in major tournaments. However, with the arrival of Julian Nagelsmann, things have slowly started changing for Die Mannschaft.
Under Julian Nagelsmann, the German side has seen the inclusion of younger players in a bid to revamp the team and it has worked massively. Germany’s recent outings saw Die Mannschaft beat France 2-0 before defeating Netherlands 2-1 ahead of the Euros in June. With these impressive performances it was only a matter of time before the German football federation offered Nagelsmann a new contract.
The new deal will see Julian Nagelsmann stay on as the German national team coach till 2026 World Cup. Nagelsmann’s extended stay for Germany will also boost the chances of the national side being completely transformed by the next world cup with a youthful core at the base of the team in 2026. The news of Nagelsmann’s extended stay will also delight several German fans as rumors of Julian taking on the managerial role for Liverpool or Bayern Munich in the summer were surfacing.
Speaking on the new deal, Julian Nagelsmann said, “This is a decision of the heart. It is a great honour to be able to coach the national team and work with the best players in the country”.
“We want to play a successful home Euros together… then I’m really looking forward to the challenge of a World Cup together with my coaching staff,” said the 36 year old gaffer.
Germany’s Euro 2024 ambition
While the German national side has struggled in major tournaments recently, the 2024 Euros will offer Die Mannschaft a chance to revive their status as Germany is set to host the European tournament in June. The German federation will be hopeful of the German side led by Julian Nagelsmann emerging victorious backed by the support of home fans.
Germany has been placed in Group A alongside Hungary, Scotland and Switzerland and are expected to top the group. However, the path to victory will not be easy. Die Mannschaft will face stiff competition with reigning champions Italy and strong contenders like France, Spain, Portugal and England also in the hunt for the ultimate European glory.
