Julen Lopetegui to Bayern Munich? Max Eberl approaches former Real Madrid manager
Bayern Munich appeared to be struggling in search of a replacement for Thomas Tuchel for next season. Latest rumour suggested that Die Rotten are in talks with former Real Madrid tactician Julen Lopetegui.
Florian Plettenberg from SkySports breaks down the details about Eberl trying to approach Lopetegui. It is reported that Eberl dialled Lopetegui’s management asking about the availability. The call was replied as the candidate is looking for an opportunity of coaching again.
Julen Lopetegui to Bayern Munich? Not at all the first time
Plettenberg also revealed that it was not the first time Bayern tried to hire Lopetegui. Back in 2020, the most decorated German team was looking for a potential replacement for Niko Kovac but the deal was ever happened.
However, Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl does not deny nor confirm the issue, hinting that the manager hunting activity was confidential. “I’ve never publicly discussed candidates – even if it were shortly before the announcement – and I’ll stick to that,“ as per Plettenberg posted on his X, formerly known as Twitter account.
Bayern are racing in time as summer is fast approaching and they have to announce the news before the new season starts. Lopetegui is not the only target that has been under the radar. Zinedine Zidane, Hansi Flick, as well as Julian Nagelsmann were also among the names who were rumoured to be contacted by Bayern.
