Jordan vs Qatar Preview and Prediction
Jordan vs Qatar Match Preview
Dark horses Jordan will face hosts and defending champions Qatar in the final of the AFC Asian Cup on Saturday, February 10 at the Lusail Stadium.
Jordan enters this contest on the back of a decent run of form. They won five of their last 10 games, losing four and drawing one of the remaining ones. They have been in good shape at this tournament, qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams. Since then, they have eliminated Iraq, Tajikistan and South Korea to make it to the final. Having kept clean sheets in half their games, Jordan will look to put in a strong performance having made it to their first-ever final.
Qatar, on the other hand, are in a much better vein of form than their fellow finalists. They have won nine of their last 10 games, losing the other to none other than Jordan by a 2-1 scoreline in a friendly. That could play on their minds as they head into this contest having qualified as group winners, before eliminating Palestine, Uzbekistan and Iran. Having won their maiden Asian Cup last time around, Qatar will look to repeat the feat and put their best foot forward in the final.
On that note, let’s take a look at the team news from both camps.
Team News & Predicted Lineups
Jordan
Manager Houcine Ammouta has no injury concerns or suspensions to worry about ahead of his team’s first-ever Asian Cup final. He has largely stuck with the same XI throughout the tournament and is likely to continue in the same way.
Forwards Mousa Al-Taamari and Yazan Al-Naimat have been in top form for Jordan at this tournament. They have each scored three goals so far and will be crucial for their nation’s hopes of lifting the cup. Mahmoud Al-Mardi has been another one to watch as he has bagged two goals so far.
Predicted XI: Yazeed Abulaila (GK), Abdallah Nasib, Yazan Alarab, Baraa Marei, Ehsan Haddad (C), Nizar Mahmoud Al-Rashdan, Noor Al-Rawabdeh, Mohammad Ali Hasheesh, Mousa Al-Taamari, Mahmoud Al-Mardi, Yazan Al-Naimat.
Qatar
Manager Tintin Marquez will have no suspensions to worry about, but centre-back and captain Almahdi Ali could be doubtful. Ali went off injured shortly after the hour-mark in their semi-final win over Iran and will face a late fitness test.
Akram Afif (5) and Hassan Al Haydos (3) have led the team in the scoring charts and their performance in the final will be crucial. Marquez will field the same XI he did in the semis and will hope they get the job done and win the cup.
Predicted XI: Meshaal Aissa Barsham (GK), Pedro Miguel, Lucas Mendes, Almahdi Ali (C), Mohammed Waad, Yusuf Abdurisag, Jassem Gaber Abdulsallam, Ahmed Fathy, Homam Ahmed, Almoez Ali, Akram Afif.

Last 5 Games Head-to-head
- Qatar 1-2 Jordan (January, 2024)
- Qatar 2-0 Jordan (December, 2018)
- Jordan 2-3 Qatar (August, 2016)
- Qatar 2-0 Jordan (January, 2014)
- Qatar 1-1 Jordan (October, 2012)
As you can see, games between these two sides are fairly rare, with the odd friendly every two years. However, Qatar lead the head-to-head by three wins to Jordan’s one, with the teams playing out a draw back in 2012.
Jordan won the last meeting which was just over a month ago. That could play into the minds of the Qataris, who are in their second successive AFC Asian Cup final.
Considering Qatar will play in front of a home crowd, they do have a big advantage. However, Jordan seem solid and unstoppable and will likely hold on to pull off an upset. Qatar’s Akram Afif will be one to watch and is a good shout for anytime goal scorer.
Prediction: Jordan 2-1 Qatar.
