Jordan vs Qatar Head-To-Head record ahead of the AFC Asian Cup Final
Jordan and Qatar face off in the finals of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup on Saturday at the Lusail Stadium. We could either see a new winner, or the reigning champions successfully defending their crown. Either way, this one’s special.
For the first time in their history, Jordan have reached Asian Cup finals and pulled it off in a sensational way too as they ousted talented South Korea in the semi-finals. Yazan Al-Naimat and Mousa Al-Taamari scored in the second half to knock out the Taegeuk Warriors, who misfired badly in the match.
Meanwhile, Qatar, the hosts of the tournament and the defending title holders, ousted a spirited Iran side in the last four. The Maroons fell behind in just the fourth minute but went 2-1 up soon. Team Melli equalized early into the second half before Almoez Ali netted the winner in the 82nd minute for Tintín Márquez’s side.

The Maroons have beaten their Middle Eastern counterpart on 12 occasions, while overseeing a defeat only six times. Jordan’s last win over Qatar came over 15 years ago in a mini, West Asian tournament, and have run out of luck in the fixture since then.
Qatar have beaten Jordan by an identical scoreline of 2-0 in their most recent two encounters but can expect a tougher opposition against the side in their latest matchup, with Al-Nashama displaying encouraging fighting spirit in the knockout stages to get here.
Jordan vs Qatar: Tournament So Far
Coming into the tournament on the back of a thumping 6-1 loss to Japan in a friendly, Jordan quickly recovered to beat Malaysia 4-0 in their opening group fixture. South Korea held them to a late 2-2 draw on matchday two, before going down 1-0 to Bahrain. With just four points in three games, the Chivalrous Ones finished third in Group E but progressed to the knockout stages by virtue of a superior goal-difference.

Since then, Hussein Ammouta’s side have been on an upward trajectory, ousting Iraq (3-2) in the round of 16, Tajikistan (1-0) in the quarter-finals, and then Korea (2-0) in the semis.
Qatar, though, have seen a more dominant run. The holders won all three of their group fixtures, beating Lebanon 3-0 in their first clash, Tajikistan 1-0 in the next, followed by a 1-0 defeat of China in their last group fixture. The Maroons then overcame Palestine 1-0 in the round of 16, before surviving a scare against Uzbekistan in the last-8. Then came the mighty Iran, and Marquez’s side produced a clinical display to oust them with a 3-2 victory.
