Here’s why Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal would not be able to win the league this season

Liverpool’s former vice-captain Jamie Carragher does not believe that Arsenal could win the league this season. The Gunners are topping the Premier League table after Liverpool played a draw against Manchester City last weekend at Anfield. 

However, Carragher said that Arsenal’s biggest challenges are yet to come. Mikel Arteta’s squad still have Manchester City, Wolverhampton, and Manchester United, all away games. These games, according to Carra, are tough for The Gunners to win.

Jamie Carragher highlights that Etihad and Old Trafford could be tough for Arsenal

However, Carragher is not entirely right. Apart from Wolverhampton, which Arsenal successfully won three times at Molineux in the last five visits, Etihad and Old Trafford are obviously the tough ones.

Arsenal’s last league victory at the Etihad came in 2015 where Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud brought them two goals to nil. Meanwhile for away games at Old Trafford, the North London-side have lost in the last two visits. 

“You have got tough away games,” Carra said via Sportskeeda. “It’s Tottenham, City, Wolves, Brighton and Man United. I think that will just stop you.

“If Man City don’t lose points in the next four or five games, your last four or five are decent games, your tough ones are now. It’s got to be here or now for Arsenal.”

Mikel Arteta demands focus from his players

In the upcoming fixture, Arsenal are scheduled for a trip to Etihad. Arteta the manager said he was content regarding his team’s position, adding that every game is a must-win one

“I think it’s an amazing situation that we are involved, looking at the level those two teams [Liverpool and City] have that we are still there and sitting at the top,” Arteta said via Mirror. “The ambition raises, we want to continue to be there and we have to go game by game.”

Arsenal had a similar situation last season. Spending the 80 percent of last season’s time as a league leader, they bottled it in their last games and made way for City to win. The three draws against Liverpool, West Ham, and Southampton following a 1-4 defeat to The Citizens were the disastrous moments.
