Why is James Maddison out of the England Euro 2024 Squad?
James Maddison omitted from England’s squad ahead of the UEFA Euro 2024
The English midfielder James Maddison has been excluded from England’s final Euro 2024 squad. The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder reportedly left the first team’s camp on June 05, 2024, after being informed about the scenario. Maddison was initially selected in the Three Lions’ 33-man provisional squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 but has failed to make it through to the final shortlist of players.
The 27-year-old did feature for Gareth Southgate’s team in their most recent international friendly fixture against Bosnia and Herzegovina which the Three Lions won by a scoreline of 3-0 at home. James Maddison was also expected to play in England’s next friendly encounter against Iceland at the Wembley Stadium on June 7. But as reports preclude, he will now also not be a part of the squad that will participate in that game.

Maddison started of the 2023-2024 Premier League season very brightly for Tottenham. But the midfielder’s form faded during the later stages of the top-flight campaign. He wasn’t able to inflict that much of an influence on Spurs’ on-field performances during the second half of the season under Ange Postecoglou.
The midfielder even went through a face when he was axed from the starting eleven of the London-based club. Maybe that similar spark which has been missing from his game for a little while now has acted as the major reason behind him not being included in England’s 26-man final squad for the Euro 2024.

Besides James Maddison, Liverpool’s Curtis Jones also axed from England’s Euro 2024 final roster
According to the ‘Mail Sport’, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has also been omitted from England’s final squad for the Euros. It was Jones’ first national call-up when he got into his country’s provisional 33-man squad for the upcoming European tournament. However, the 23-year-old would not be making it through to Germany with the final selected squad.
Curtis Jones provides Gareth Southgate with a player who has a certain dynamism to his game. Maybe that’s why the team management decided to name him in the provisional squad itself. But there is quite a feisty competition for the midfield positions in the current England squad.
Maybe the youngster didn’t fit the formation and the plan that the Three Lions are looking to go along with in the Euros. Curtis Jones’ Liverpool teammate – Jarrel Quansah, is also likely to be excluded from the nation’s final Euro 2024 squad.
