Brentford’s impressive draw against Aston Villa was overshadowed by a heated argument between teammates Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins after the final whistle.
Why were Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins spotted arguing after the Aston Villa vs Brentford tie?
The Aston Villa vs Brentford tie ended in pure chaos as teammates Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins got into a heated argument after the full-time whistle. Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney seemed angry after the final whistle and quickly walked over towards defender Collins and started shouting. His demeanor clearly indicated his disappointment with the defender. The striker also held up his hand with three fingers, perhaps referring to the amount of goals Brentford’s leaky defense led by Collins conceded on the night. It seems that Toney didn’t appreciate leaving the game with only one point as Brentford were on the verge of victory until an 80th minute Ollie Watkins goal.
However, Collins didn’t seem in the mood to suffer Ivan Toney’s words without retorting. The central defender was seen angrily responding to the striker as well as the duo had a lengthy back and forth. Finally, manager Thomas Frank had to intervene and separate the duo of Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins. When questioned later, Frank refused to accept there was a problem between the two and insisted that both players were merely competitive.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Thomas Frank said, “Both are very competitive, this team is very competitive, I don’t know exactly what it was about. But it’s fine to have a little friction, this is a very good group of players. There is no problem.” It remains to be seen whether the duo of Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins are on okay terms, but it won’t be the first time two teammates have argued after a game. In a sport like football, it is natural for players to be frustrated and demand the best from teammates.
Brentford secure a surprise draw at Villa Park:
16th placed Brentford arrived at Villa Park to face the 4th placed hosts Aston Villa in the English Premier League on matchday 32. While the game was expected to be an easy win for Villa, Brentford fought hard to secure a surprising draw. The Bees fell behind in the first half after Ollie Watkins scored for Aston Villa. However, Brentford rallied forward and managed to score 3 goals in a span of ten minutes in the second half.
Just as it seemed that Brentford might manage to leave Villa Park with three points, they were handed a rude shock by Aston Villa talisman Ollie Watkins who equalized for the Lions in the 80th minute. While Brentford will be disappointed in their inability to keep the lead and win, the draw against 4th placed Aston Villa will certainly boost their spirits heading into the business end of the season.
