Italy 4-1 Israel: Player Ratings as Di Lorenzo Double Secures Win

Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored twice to help Italy beat Israel in the UEFA Nations League. The EURO 2020 winners needed Mateo Retegui to score from the spot late in the first half to open the scoring but managed to ease to the finish line in the second half.

The three points helped Italy remain on top of League A Group Two with 10 points and are now guaranteed to finish in the top 2 regardless of the results in the remaining two matches.

Guglielmo Vicario – 8: There was nothing he could do about the goal as he was very much blocked by an opponent. Made comfortable saves when needed throughout the game and Israel hardly managed to threaten him.

Defenders

Giovanni Di Lorenzo – 9: Absolutely stunning performance from the Italian captain today. Two goals were the cherry on top of his masterclass in defense today.

Alessandro Bastoni – 8: Decent match for the defender, but he will be hoping to get better next time. Was finding it hard against Madmon when there was an overload in attack.

Riccardo Calafiori – 7: Not his best game for Italy but Arsenal will be delighted that he returns without an injury. He needed help to contain Peretz but his passing was not upto the mark.

Midfielders

Andrea Cambiaso – 6.5: Easily the worst player on the pitch for Italy today. He was always available on the right wing, but never managed to threaten in attack and mostly played safe passes instead of trying something in the final third.

Davide Frattesi – 8: Brilliant performance from the midfielder as he got a lot of freedom to attack today. He was hardly needed to do defensive duties and that helped him roam around freely on the pitch.

Nicolo Fagioli – 7: Played just the first half and was decent. Nothing exceptional but was always in the middle of the midfield to intercept passes and start attacks.

Sandro Tonali – 8: Won the penalty in the first half and was always ready to help out on the left wing. He drifted to the touchline a lot to let Dimarco attack and play almost like a left-winger today.

Federico Dimarco – 8: The left wing-back was creating chances for fun today. Never looked out of position and was ready to cut in and attack when needed. Misplaced just one pass today and even his corners were exceptional.

Forwards

Giacomo Raspadori – 7: No goal today, nor did he get a shot on target. Not his best performance but he still managed to get an assist in the game before exiting in the 74th minute.

Mateo Retegui – 7.5: The penalty was simply too good. Top corner and even the best keepers in the world would not have managed to stop it even if they had guessed the right direction to jump.

Samuele Ricci – 7

Destiny Udogie – 8

Daniel Maldini – 7

Lorenzo Lucca – 6

Omri Glazer – 7: Despite conceding 4 goals, he was one of the best performers for his side. Made 4 saves in the game and was commanding his box during set pieces.

Defenders

Ilay Feingold – 6: Never managed to stop Dimarco and was getting spun like a Beyblade today. He never got the help he needed, and that saw him struggle to do his duties.

Idan Nachmias – 6: Played the whole game but always looked out of position. He was getting pulled out by the Italian forwards and that saw the Italian midfielders get a lot of space to run in behind.

Matan Baltaxa – 6.5: Pick of the Israel defenders today despite not doing a lot. He was better than the other two as he won all his ground duels today.

Midfielders

Liel Abada – 4: Easily the worst player on the pitch today. Never in position to help out defensively and managed just 7 passes in his 75 minutes on the pitch.

Mohammad Abu Fani – 7.5: Scored directly from a corner and was ready to launch attacks at every chance. However, he kept losing possession and it was leading to counters from Italy.

Gabi Kanikovski – 7: The only other Israel player who tried to make something when he got the chance. However, he played just 45 minutes and was ready to do everything to help his side.

Dolev Haziza – 6: Played 64 minutes but hardly got the ball to help in attack. Was pushed back by the Italian attackers all the time and never got into the final third.

Forwards

Dor Peretz – 6: Gave away the penalty in the first half and that changed the whole game. He never managed to do anything significant for his side and was never involved.

Oscar Gloukh – 6.5: Took two shots in the game but both were off target. Never threatened the Italian defense and it was a surprise that he played 90 mintues today.

Elad Madmon – 6: Played 64 minutes today and managed to get just one shot on goal. It was from miles out and easily saved by Guglielmo Vicario.
