Ipswich 1-4 Tottenham: Player Ratings as Johnson and Son star for Spurs in a resounding win away from home
Tottenham made a great start to the game with most of their attacking play being created from wingers Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson. The speed and directness shown by the pair helped their team get into a commanding position early in the game. Johnson scored in minutes 18 and 26 to put Ipswich heavily on the back-foot, with both assists coming from Son.
However, a two-goal advantage is the most dangerous in football as they say, since it has the tendency to make teams with it slightly complacent. This allowed Ipswich a way back into the contest just before the break. Jack Clarke provided an assist for former Arsenal and Chelsea man Omari Hutchinson to score as the teams went into the break with Tottenham 2-1 up.
Kieran McKenna made one alteration during the half-time interval as he replaced the underperforming Ben Godfrey with Luke Woolfenden. However, this did not seem to help Ipswich much as they were unable to create anything substantial. Tottenham looked to extend their lead as Ange Postecoglou doubled-down on his intent with substitutions to match.
Substitute James Maddison provided the assist for Tottenham’s third goal scored by Djed Spence as they seemed to be in an unassailable position. Shortly after, another substitute got in on the act as Dane Scarlett provided an assist for Dejan Kulusevski to get on the scoresheet in an emphatic performance by the visiting side.
Although Ipswich improved their 33% possession in the first period to nearly half in the second period, they failed to make an impact. They made good inroads into Spurs’ defensive lines but lacked accuracy upon arriving in the final third, with each of their five shots being fired wide.
The result sees Ipswich slip into 18th place with 17 points from 25 games as time is fast running out for them. Spurs, on the other hand, climb to 13th with 30 points from 25 matches.
On that note, here are the player ratings.
