Inter Milan vs Atalanta Player Ratings – Dumfries double strike help Inter reach the Supercoppa Final

Inter Milan, who are Atalanta’s Kryptonite, unbeaten in their last 13 meetings, continued their record as they comfortably won 2-0, thanks to a brace from Denzel Dumfries. Inter will meet the winner of Juventus vs AC Milan on Monday night. Inter have won this prestigious trophy eight times and bid to be the first club in history to win it four times in a row.

Inter Milan were unchanged from their 3-0 win vs Cagliari away from home while Atalanta rotated heavily, making six changes to the side after their 1-1 stalemate versus Lazio. Inter could have easily scored in the first 30 seconds of the game when Thuram burst on the right flank with full speed and gave the ball to Lautaro, who had three big occasions to score against a defence who did not yet settle down. They came close again when Lautaro got another chance to score from a set-piece situation which Carnesecchi expertly saved. Inter were on the front foot and had Atalanta on a chokehold. But Atalanta got a very good chance surprisingly, when Scalvini got a free header which he was unable to guide it properly. Carnesecchi made a double save again when Lautaro was on through and tried to shoot from long range and the rebound was at Dimarco’s feet, which was saved again. Atalanta spent most of the time defending and attempting to snuff out the lively advances of Inter attackers.

Inter continued to dominate and were rewarded with the opening goal of the night when Dumfries scored a goal with a bicycle kick from a set-piece situation, as he controlled the ball after receiving it from a mistimed header from Bisseck. While Atalanta’s attack looked a bit potent after Gasperini made some substitutions, the happiness did not last long as Dumfries fired a thunder strike to double the lead. In the 72nd minute, Atalanta then thought they pulled one back, when Ederson scored from a rebound, but it was unfortunately ruled out for offside after De Ketelaere. Despite Atalanta looking good after making substitutions, Inter were comfortable enough to keep them at bay.

Sommer: 7/10 – He made some vital saves in the game especially at the stroke of full-time, but was mostly untroubled, especially in the first half.

de Vrij: 6.5/10 – He was composed defensively and read the game well to sniff out dangerous attacks.

Bisseck: 7/10 – A sturdy display and assisted for the opener in a roundabout fashion.

Bastoni: 6/10 – He had a misjudgement that could have been costly, but other than that, it was a regulation performance.

Midfielders

Dimarco: 7.5/10 – An energetic performance on the left flank from him, complementing well with his counterpart and creating plenty of chances.

Mkhitaryan: 6.5/10 – The veteran did his job well and won the midfield battle against his opponents. However, he could have been a little bit cautious with his execution of passes.

Barella: 7.5/10 – Another great display from the Italian, who constantly moved the ball forward and pulled out some magnificient passes.

Calhanoglu: 7/10 – A good performance from the midfielder, who did well to dictate the midfield.

Dumfries: 9/10 – A wingback masterclass from the Dutchman, scoring twice, especially in an acrobatic fashion.

Forwards

Martinez: 5/10 – The Argentine continues his poor form as he missed plenty of easy chances in the game throughout.

Thuram: 6.5/10 – A lively start, who troubled the opposition’s defence with his movement, but was rested after playing only the first half.

Simone Inzaghi: 8.5/10 – The Inter manager did not take any risks and put out his best XI and rotated it in the second half, which ensured the victory and helped them reach the final.

Goalkeeper

Carnesecchi: 8.5/10 – Despite being put under pressure, the goalkeeper was excellent, making some spectacular saves and was unfortunate to end up not getting a cleansheet.

Defenders

Kossounou: 6/10 – While he struggled to win some duels, he managed to hold on and disrupt some of the opposition plays.

Hien: 6/10 – He worked hard defensively but was stretched out by the opposition attacks.

Kolasinac: 5/10 – He struggled in the game, especially against Dumfries. He also made a brash tackle which resulted in an attacking free kick that almost could have been a goal.

Midfielders

Ruggeri: 5.5/10 – The wingback was unable to handle the heat of Inter’s attackers and got subbed off in the second half.

de Roon: 6/10 – The captain anchored the midfield with his tackles and interceptions but offered little going forward.

Scalvini: 5/10 – Starting his first game after a big ACL injury in June. the youngster was still a little rough on the edges. He had a golden chance to get his team ahead which he fluffed.

Zappacosta: 6/10 – Even though he had some noteworthy moments while attacking, he was not good enough defensively

Zaniolo: 4.5/10 – Making his full debut tonight, the forward wanted to prove his mettle but it was a very disappointing performance, showing nothing worth of value tonight.

Brescianini: 5/10 – A bad performance from him, who had nothing to show and was not impactful at all.

Samardzic: 5/10 – He has struggled to impact the game and got subbed off early in the second half.
