How Can Pakistan Qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Semi-Final After Losing to New Zealand?
ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled from 19th Feb to 9th March, It’s one of the toughest ICC Tournaments as it’s a very compact tournament, one bad day may lead to elimination from the entire tournament. In this year’s ICC Champions Trophy teams are divided into two groups: Group A & Group B.

Every team from each group are set to play one match against other teams from the same group, i.e. three matches per team in the league stage of the ICC Champions Trophy. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. Semi-finals are scheduled to be played at Dubai International Stadium as the Indian National Team is not travelling to Pakistan, and India will play all of their matches in Dubai. It is expected that India will qualify for the semi-finals and play in the first semi-final. The second semi-final is to be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Pakistan. Both matches will played at 2:30 PM IST.
How will Pakistan Qualify after losing to NZ?
After Losing the first game against New Zealand, the chances of Pakistan’s qualifications for the semi-final have been dropped as now they have to depend on the other teams for their qualifications. Pakistan will be praying for Bangladesh to win their games against India and New Zealand or at least one of them to open the way for qualifications for Pakistan. their are certain ways by which Pakistan can still qualify for the semi-finals.
Now let’s understand what’re the scenarios for the qualification of Pakistan :
- Pakistan now has to win all their remaining matches which are against India and Bangladesh on 23rd Feb and 27th Feb respectively, Also, India needs to win both matches and have to defeat NZ with a bigger margin. In this scenario Pakistan and New Zealand will have the same points and if India wins by a bigger margin. The Net Run Rate will come into play and Pakistan will go into the semi-finals.
- To qualify Pakistan needs to win their remaining league matches, However, they also want Bangladesh to beat both New Zealand and India in the league matches or either of them at least, for qualifications into the Semi-finals.
- In the last scenario, Pakistan has to win all their matches along with, India or New Zealand either of them has to lose their remaining league games.
