In a significant development, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have reportedly reached a verbal agreement paving the way for the loan transfer of 21-year-old Dutch international left-back Ian Maatsen. After weeks of negotiations, both clubs have finalized terms that will see Maatsen move from Stamford Bridge to the Westfalenstadion until the conclusion of the current season.

The transfer rumour has gained substantial traction, reaching the penultimate level of credibility, with renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano giving it the coveted #HereWeGo status.
Ruhr Nachrichten has also corroborated the news, confirming both the verbal agreement and the impending medical examination for Maatsen. However, it appears there is no obligation or option for Borussia Dortmund to purchase the player outright, leaving negotiations for a permanent move to be addressed separately at the end of the season.
Ian Maatsen is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday, with the anticipation of joining the team in training in Marbella, Spain.

For Borussia Dortmund, this move addresses a key priority in their transfer plans, providing reinforcement at left-back. Currently fifth in the league standings, Dortmund seeks to bolster their squad for the second half of the season after a challenging domestic campaign, despite an impressive showing in the Champions League group stage.
Meanwhile, Chelsea‘s involvement in this transfer is seen as a strategic move to navigate Financial Fair Play restrictions. Sitting in 10th place in the Premier League, the Blues are reportedly eyeing a winter signing in the striker position, with names like Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen linked to a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
