The semi-finals was against Arsenal who are strong contenders for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. However Newcastle United won the first leg of the semifinal against Arsenal in a comfortable 2-0 win at Emirates.

They then proceeded to win the reverse fixture which is the second leg of the semifinal at their home stadium 2-0 as well. Newcastle won 4-0 over Arsenal on aggregate and booked their tickets for the finals at Wembley.
