“Kane scores many goals” – Robert Lewandowski gives Harry Kane his flowers as Englishman closes-in on Pole’s scoring record

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has given Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane his flowers as the latter closes in on the Pole’s scoring record in the Bundesliga.

Lewandowski played for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern in the Bundesliga between 2010-22 and set several scoring records in incredible style. Now, he has given his successor for the Bavarians his flowers.

Robert Lewandowski’s comments on Harry Kane

Speaking to the media about his own record, Robert Lewandowski admitted he was proud of his own achievement. He also mentioned Kane’s scoring abilities, but reiterated the duration it took him to achieve his record.

“I’ll be honest & say I’m proud of it. 41 goals in 29 games. I looked at it more in that context, rather than if the record will be broken or not.

“Kane scores many goals, but I’m more proud to have broken that record in 29 games.”

Robert Lewandowski had one of the greatest individual seasons for a striker in the 2020-21 campaign. The Pole made 40 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring a whopping 48 goals and providing nine assist on top of that. Of those, 41 goals and seven assists came in 29 Bundesliga games.

Harry Kane is on pace to break the record but might need to play every league game for Bayern until the end of the season. He currently has 30 goals and eight assists in 25 league games and will need to score 11 in his next four to match Lewandowski’s record in the same timeframe.

Lewandowski’s career in Germany

Lewandowski spent over a decade playing for two of the biggest German clubs. He spent four years at Dortmund, where the Pole made a global superstar of himself. In 187 appearances for the Black & Yellow, he scored 103 goals and provided 42 assists. With them, he was a two-time Bundesliga champion and also won one DFB-Pokal.

Lewa then joined Bayern Munich in 2014, representing the Bavarian giants for eight successful years. The Pole remarkably ended each of those years as Bundesliga champions as Bayern continued their surreal domination. However, his scoring form skyrocketed. He made 375 appearances for the club, scoring 344 goals and providing 73 assists as well. Along with the league, Lewandowski also won the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup with Bayern.

He then joined Barcelona in July 2022 for a hefty sum of €50 million with add-ons.
