Harry Kane becomes first player to hit 50 goals and assists this season

Harry Kane was on target against Heidenheim on Saturday

Bayern Munich star Harry Kane made a unique record on Saturday, as his strike against Heidenheim made him the first player in Europe to hit 50 goal contributions this season. It was his 38th goal in all competitions, while the former Tottenham Hotspur star has registered a further 12 assists too.

It has been a prolific first season in the German top-flight for Kane, who joined from Spurs last summer after 10 years in London. He took little time to adjust to his new surroundings and has taken the Bundesliga by storm – with 32 goals, Kane has at least eight more than any other player in the league right now.

The 30-year-old has bagged another six in the Champions League.

Last night, he continued his blistering run of form by netting against Heidenheim, running into the space in the centre to connect with Serge Gnabry’s cross for a simple finish. It brought his total goal contribution for the season to 50, a feat unmatched by any player.

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who netted 52 times last season, is currently on 36 goals and assists for the season, whereas Kylian Mbappe is on a close 48 for PSG.

Kane could finish titleless despite a prolific record

For all his incredible run of form, Harry Kane could still finish trophyless with Bayern Munich this season. Following their shock loss to Heidenheim on Saturday, the Bavarians are left trailing leaders Bayer Leverkusen by 14 points with only six games remaining. Having also been knocked out of the DFB Pokal Cup, the Champions League remains their only hope of silverware this season, but given their patchy form right now, even that doesn’t seem easy, especially with Manchester City and Real Madrid looking solid.
