Torrent Group (“Torrent”), a multinational company with interests in healthcare and energy, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a 67% stake in the renowned Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Gujarat Titans (Irelia Sports India Private Limited), from Irelia Company Pte Ltd (“Irelia”), which is currently fully owned by CVC-managed or advised funds. The deal is subject to usual closing conditions and approvals (including from the BCCI).

As part of the deal, the current GT owners CVC will keep a 33% share in the franchise. This strategic partnership between one of India’s largest business groups and a globally recognised private equity firm is the first of its type in India’s sports sector, opening up new potential for growth and collaboration.
