Wolves forward Goncalo Guedes joins Villarreal on loan
Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Goncalo Guedes is set for another loan spell as he joins Spanish side Villarreal on loan until the end of the season.
The Portuguese winger spent the first half of the season on loan at Benfica, where he made 14 appearances across competitions, providing two assists. He returned to Wolves in January and is now set to move to Villarreal on loan.
The Yellow Submarines have struggled this season and are close to a relegation battle. They sit 15th in La Liga standings, just four points above 18th-placed Cadiz. They’ve won just one of their last five league games and will hope Guedes can help them stay in the Spanish top flight for the next season as well.
Guedes has good experience of playing in Spanish football, having previously made 178 appearances for Valencia, scoring 36 goals and providing 30 assists.

The Portuguese winger came through Benfica’s academy before joining Paris Saint-Germain in January 2017. He then joined Valencia, initially on loan, that summer before the move was made permanent the following year.
Guedes spent four years with the Spanish club before joining Wolves in 2022. He has, however, only made 18 appearances for the Midlands club, spending most of his time out on loan at Benfica.
The 27-year-old will now hope to impress with Villarreal and find a club where he could perhaps stay for a longer period of time.
Guedes completed his medical with Villarreal on Friday, January 19. Hence, he would be ineligible for their La Liga clash at home against Mallorca on Saturday. However, he could feature in their clash against Barcelona away on January 27.
