Getafe vs Real Madrid Preview and Prediction
Getafe vs Real Madrid Preview
Mid-table side Getafe will cover up their games in hand as they host La Liga leaders Real Madrid at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Friday, February 2.
The hosts enter this contest on the back of a slightly mixed run of form. They are 10th in La Liga with 26 points from 20 games. They secured a few wins on the bounce but have now lost three of their last five across competitions. During this phase, Getafe have scored seven goals and conceded 11. They were also knocked out of the Copa del Rey after a 3-1 loss to Sevilla. However, with a game against lowly Granada before they host Los Blancos, the hosts could bring some valuable momentum into this fixture.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, are in a fine vein of form having won all but one of their last 10 games across competitions. That defeat, however, was a 4-2 reverse against cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid which saw them crash out of the Copa del Rey. During that time, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have scored a whopping 28 goals and conceded 15. Now, with a fresh two-point cushion over second-placed Girona, Real will look to extend their lead and give themselves some breathing room with a win.
On that note, let’s take a look at the team news for both sides.
Team News & Probable Lineups
Getafe
Central midfielder Mauro Arambarri remains sidelined as he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury which he suffered in October last year. He will most likely return only next season. Midfielder Ilaix Moriba remains unavailable as his Guinea gear up for the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, defenders Omar Alderete and Gaston Alvarez, as well as midfielder Carles Alena are all at the risk of facing suspension. They have all picked up four bookings so far this La Liga season.
Manager Jose Bordalas fielded a strong lineup in Getafe’s 3-2 defeat at Osasuna last time around. He will likely stick with the same XI barring any last-minute issues.
Probable XI: David Soria (GK), Dakonam Djene (C), Gaston Alvarez, Omar Alderete, Diego Rico, Carles Alena, Luis Milla, Nemanja Maksimovic, Mason Greenwood, Enes Unal, Borja Mayoral.
Real Madrid
Long-term absentees Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and David Alaba remain sidelined as they recover from cruciate ligament injuries.
Meanwhile, French midfield pairing of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are both at the risk of facing suspensions having picked up four yellow cards so far this season.
Ancelotti made a couple of changes to the XI in the team’s 2-1 win at Las Palmas and will likely return to his strongest XI against Getafe. Jude Bellingham will also be available for selection after serving his suspension.
Probable XI: Andriy Lunin (GK), Daniel Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger, Nacho Fernandez (C), Ferland Mendy, Aurelien Tchouameni, Luka Modric, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior.

Getafe vs Real Madrid Head-to-Head & Prediction
Last 5 Games H2H (La Liga)
- Real Madrid 2-1 Getafe (09/23)
- Real Madrid 1-0 Getafe (05/23)
- Getafe 0-1 Real Madrid (10/22)
- Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe (04/22)
- Getafe 1-0 Real Madrid (01/22)
As you can see, meetings between these two teams are usually close affairs, with four of the last five encounters decided by a single-goal margin. However, Real Madrid have the clear advantage, winning four of five, with Getafe picking up a rare win back in January 2022.
The upcoming fixture, too, will be a cagey affair as trends suggest. However, Real have conceded first to much lesser opponents in their last few games and could do that once again against a potent set of attackers. However, they should secure the win in the end.
Prediction: Getafe 1-3 Real Madrid.
