Germany vs Denmark: Preview, Prediction, Lineups and Team News | Euro 2024

Preview

Germany vs Denmark will take place in the Round of 16 at Euro 2024 as the two teams will lock horns at the Signal Iduna Park on June 29.

Die Mannschaft will enter this game having qualified for the knockouts as Group A winners. They defeated Switzerland (5-1) and Hungary (2-0) convincingly, before securing a late 1-1 draw against Switzerland to qualify. Being the top-scoring side at a major tournament at home, Germany will have their tails up as they will look to win it all.

Denmark, on the other hand, qualified as runners-up in Group C. However, they did so without winning a single game as they played two 1-1 draws and one goalless draw in the group stage. However, they will need to alter their approach in the knockouts as the game will not end after 90 minutes, and they will have to dig deep for results.

That said, let’s take a look at the team news from both camps.

Germany vs Denmark Team News

Germany

Die Mannschaft manager Julian Nagelsmann fielded strong lineups in the first two games, with the strongest being in the opener, and will likely revert to that combination.

Manuel Neuer will retain his spot between the sticks for Germany, with Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah in defence. Toni Kroos will man the midfield alongside Robert Andrich. Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz will play out wide, with Ilkay Gundogan as the 10. Kai Havertz will lead the line for his team.

Denmark

Manager Kasper Hjumland will look for a win after three straight draws to begin Euro 2024. He will field a strong lineup similar to the one used against England.

Captain Kasper Schmeichel will retain his place in goal, with Joachim Andersen, Jannik Vestergaard and Andreas Christensen in defence ahead of him. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will anchor the midfield alongside Morten Hjumland, with Joakim Maehle on the flank. Christian Eriksen will play as the number 10 and Rasmus Hojlund will lead the line.

Key Players to Watch

Jamal Musiala

  • Jamal Musiala (Germany) – With two goals to his name already, Musiala looks sharp and primed for Euro 2024. His advanced position on the pitch also allows him to take on defenders and drive goalwards without worrying about losing the ball in dangerous areas. He will be a key focal point for the Germans heading into the Round of 16.
  • Christian Eriksen (Denmark) – The Danish midfielder has performed reasonably well in his three games so far. He also has one goal to his name and will look to add to that tally in the next game.

Germany vs Denmark Head-to-Head Record

These two teams have met just five times in their history, with three of those games ending in draws. They famously met in the Euro 1992 final where Denmark secured an unlikely win, while Germany secured a win in their last meeting at the Euros in 2012.

Last 5 Games

  • Germany 1-1 Denmark [06/21]
  • Denmark 1-1 Germany [06/17]
  • Denmark 1-2 Germany [06/12]
  • Denmark 2-2 Germany [08/10]
  • Denmark 2-0 Germany [06/92]

Germany vs Denmark Prediction

Past meetings between these two teams do not mean much as there have been several years between each games. Teams and coaching staff have changed since the last match and despite Denmark’s quality, Germany could have too much in the tank for them.

Add to that the fact that Die Mannschaft are the home team in what already is an intimidating atmosphere for fans and it creates the perfect scenario for them to win.

Prediction: Germany 3-1 Denmark.
