Gennaro Gattuso Axed by Marseille Amidst Struggles
Marseille has parted ways with Italian football legend Gennaro Gattuso, following a string of disappointing results. The decision to sack Gattuso and his coaching staff was confirmed by reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano, marking an abrupt end to his tenure at the French club.
The final blow came after Marseille’s narrow 1-0 defeat to 10-man Brest in Ligue 1, a result that left the team languishing in ninth place on the league table, with just seven wins from 22 matches. Gattuso’s departure was sealed as he conceded that the team had “hit rock bottom” in the aftermath of the loss.
In a candid post-match statement, Gennaro Gattuso shouldered the responsibility for Marseille’s struggles, acknowledging the urgent need for improvement.
He remarked, “When you hit rock bottom, you have to take responsibility. It’s my responsibility. There is nothing else to say.”
The admission effectively dashed any hopes of European qualification for the club, shifting the focus to securing a stable position in the standings.
Gattuso’s stint at Marseille, which began in September on a contract until the end of the season, failed to yield significant success, with only nine wins from 24 matches across all competitions.
The team’s recent form has been particularly dismal, failing to secure a victory in their last seven outings under Gattuso’s management, including defeats to Lyon and an early exit from the Coupe de France.

As the club searches for a new direction, Marseille fans await news of their next managerial appointment, hoping for a resurgence in fortunes as the season progresses.
