Funniest and trending moments from Euro 2024
The UEFA Euro 2024 has cast its shadow among football fans around the world. From some stunning goals to jaw-dropping defensive contributions, the tournament had it all so far. After teams battling it out at the initial Group stages fixture, now the competition is heading to its round of 16 stages.
As the tournament that Germany is hosting for its 17th edition, has progressed since it began, a good chunk of the light-hearted and engaging moments from it has caught the fan’s eyes. Here we look at some of the funniest and trending moments from Euro 2024.
Scotland’s picture-perfect exit from Euro 2024
Scotland fans are known for their rich vein of historical patterns leading into the matchday. From their clothes to trumpets, to how they march in and out of stadiums have gathered vast attention among the worldwide viewers of UEFA Euro 2024.
However, with a draw against Hungary, Scotland crashed out of the tournament and while making their way out of the stadium, there was no shortage of what ‘BBC Sport Scotland’ termed as a “Bavarian” send-off for the country’s players, head coach, and other team staff. Unfortunately, their performance in the ongoing Euros doesn’t match the spirits of their supporters.
Polish Company makes a very specific mask for Kylian Mbappe
During France’s 1-0 win over Austria, Kylian Mbappe accidentally broke his nose. The reports had it that the France player would be wearing a mask in his next outing in the competition. However, as per UEFA regulations, Mbappe was denied wearing a tri-colour mask which represented the French flag.
It was so because players were only allowed to wear a mask denoting a single colour scheme. Despite that ahead of France’s match against Poland, a Polish company came up with a concept mask for the forward player. Sarcastically, the mask had its resemblance to the iconic characters of the ‘Ninja Turtle’.
Italy’s fan mixed tweet on knockout qualification
An Italian fan wasn’t impressed with his team’s performance in their Group B fixture against Croatia. After their opponents established an early lead through Luka Modric’s goal, it was important for Italy to at least equalise to keep their round of 16 hopes alive.
However, as it turned out, a late added-time equaliser by Mattia Zaccagni proved enough for Luciano Spalletti’s Italy to book a spot in the next round. It seemed like the fan felt that moment and his tweet went from being critical to being in sheer awe of that late goal.
Italian fans take charge of Cappuccino and Spaghetti
A duo of Italian fans held a banner denoting ‘CAPPUCINO IS ONLY FOR BREAKFAST’ outside the stadium during one of their Euro 2024 Group stage fixtures. It might just be added to a new set of rules for the Cappuccino drinkers. It certainly makes the list of one of the funniest and trending moments from Euro 2024.
A hilariously captioned picture of the Italian head coach Luciano Spalleti with his assistant manager Marco Domenichini and another official member of the team hierarchy has surfaced online. The maker of the tweet is termed to be an Albanian fan. The tweet reflects how strict Italians are when it comes to their Spaghetti and we must keep that in mind.
Luka Modric’s saddest Man of The Match Award
The veteran Croatian midfielder Luka Modric scored a fantastic goal against Italy to grant his side a lead in their Euro 2024 Group B fixture. However, an added-time goal from the opponents proved enough to see Croatia out of the tournament.
For his performance against Italy, Modric received the Man of the Match award. But interestingly it might have turned out to be the saddest man of the match award ever taken by a player. Though fans are sympathizing with the fact that, perhaps the midfielder wasn’t happy about not winning the game, his blurred facial expression while holding the MOTM trophy is doing the rounds on social media.
