Third times a charm? Fulham make third offer for Manchester United star Scott McTominay
Fulham have reportedly made a third offer to Manchester United for Scott McTominay as the Cottagers look to bring the Scot to Craven Cottage this summer. The 27-year-old faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford amid INEOS’ ongoing rebuild of Erik ten Hag’s squad with midfield on their agenda.
Manchester Evening News reports that Fulham have made a £23 million offer for McTominay, who has a year left on his contract. The 52-cap Scotland international was a standout performer for the Red Devils last season, registering 10 goals and three assists in 43 games across competitions.
Galatasaray joins Marco Silva’s Cottagers in the race to sign McTominay and the Turkish giants are showing serious interest in the central midfielder. He is also on Fenerbahce’s radar with his former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion but not at the price being quoted to seal his capture.
The Red Devils are willing to listen to offers around the £25-30 million mark, taking a hit on their previous £40 million valuation of the Scot. Last summer, they turned down a £30 million offer from West Ham United for their academy product.
McTominay is with Ten Hag’s squad in the United States for their pre-season tour ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. The club insists they value the midfielder as an important player, but he could be enticed to move for more first-team opportunities. He started 18 of 32 Premier League games last season, often his team’s savior off the bench, scoring vital late winners.
“We’ve seen what he can contribute” – Erik ten Hag’s stance on Scott McTominay potentially leaving Manchester United
Erik ten Hag was adamant he wanted to keep McTominay when discussing the Scot’s situation during pre-season. The Dutch coach spoke glowingly of the impact he had last season at Old Trafford (via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano):
“If you score 10 goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland there will be interest. We want to actually keep him because he’s a very important player for us. We’ve seen what he can contribute last season”,
McTominay also earned plaudits for his consistently stellar performances for Scotland, as Ten Hag alluded to. He bagged seven goals during the Tartan Army’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, a remarkable tally given his position. He’s been at Manchester United his entire career, making his senior debut in 2017.
