Fulham exit confirmed by Willian after saying no to contract extension: Report

Brazilian winger Willian has officially left Premier League club Fulham. As per a report by ‘The Athletic‘, the 36-year-old was offered a new contract by the Cottagers at the end of the 2023-24 season, but he chose not to consider that and made intentions clear to keep an eye out for other alternatives.

The contract-extension offer was reportedly ‘still on the table’ for the winger for quite some time ahead of Fulham’s trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in their opening game of the season. Willian hadn’t been a part of Marco Silva’s side pre-season and will be considered to have officially departed the club on July 1.

Prior to the United game, the Brazilian took to his official Instagram account to announce his Fulham exit.

The Brazilian wrote – “I would like to thank Fulham for a wonderful two years. It was special to return to the Premier League and be part of this historic club and the amazing fans. I have had incredible moments and this club will always be in my heart.”

Willian made 27 appearances for the Cottagers in the 2022-23 Premier League season, registering 10 goal contributions (5 goals and 5 assists). In the following campaign of 2023-2024, the 36-year-old played 31 matches and had 6 goal contributions (4 goals and 2 assists) to his name.

It remains to be seen where Willian’s professional football career goes from here after marking his Fulham exit.
