Five goalkeepers to have in your FPL gameweek 3 squad
Goalkeepers are essential in FPL, especially for those seeking a stable points source. They can earn points for clean sheets, saves, and bonus points. While their point potential is generally lower than outfield players, their consistency can be a valuable asset. Choosing the right goalkeeper involves considering their team’s defensive strength, fixture difficulty, and individual form.
GW3 of the FPL calendar is here and it is set to be an exciting one. Goalkeepers are great point-scoring assets for FPL teams. David Raya was the top point scorer among goalkeepers in GW2, picking up 10 points.
1. Mark Flekken
Brentford’s shot-stopper Mark Flekken has emerged as one of the top choices for the goalkeeper position among analysts and enthusiasts alike over the course of the FPL buildup. With a rather cheap price tag of £4.5m, Flekken offers excellent value. Last week, he had 3 points in the game against Liverpool. In total, he has 7 points from 2 GWs. Although that isn’t a great return, Brentford haven’t had the easiest fixtures. However, this weekend in GW3, the Bees face newly promoted Southampton. The Saints are yet to score a goal in their two games and that is expected to continue.
2. Emi Martinez
Emi Martinez is Aston Villa’s undisputed number #1 and he offers consistent points through saves and potential clean sheets. Martinez’s penalty-saving ability and impressive shot-stopping means he is a big bet for points. Villa’s defensive structure under Unai Emery is very solid in general too. Villa face Leicester this weekend, and it is highly expected that they will keep a clean sheet. Martinez however hasn’t had the greatest start to the season in FPL terms, with only 4 points to his name so far. Expect a first clean sheet this weekend.
3. Bernd Leno
Leno is an interesting one to consider this week in FPL. He is available at a cheap price of £5.0m in the game and is in general quite reliable. He has had a couple of good performances and has 6 points to show for them. His ownership is a decent 3.1%. Fulham are expected to keep a clean sheet this weekend given that they play against Ipswich Town, who have been newly promoted. Another thing is that Fulham have signed Joachim Andersen to bolster their defence and that will be of great value to those who have Leno in their FPL.
4. Ederson
Ederson Moraes is a premium goalkeeper option in FPL priced at £5.5m. Although wasting a crucial Manchester City spot on him isn’t ideal, he is the only sure starter in that team. So far this season, he already has 10 points in just two games. Although West Ham packs somewhat of a punch, Manchester City will be expected to keep a clean sheet against them. This could mean clean sheet points for Ederson as well as save points.
5. Matz Sels
While Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels could be considered a niche pick in FPL, he could get some useful points. Forest doesn’t always have the most consistent defence but, Sels’s ability to earn clean sheets and occasionally save penalties can provide valuable points. Available for £4.5m, Sels is owned by just 1.6% of the people, meaning he’s a great differential. He already has 9 points from 2 games and against Wolves this week, he could get a good return.
