Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is expected to miss around six weeks of action after he came off injured against Arsenal during pre season action. The Dane is priced at £7.0m in the game. He’s not United’s only injury absence though. New signing Leny Yoro was ruled out for three months and Luke Shaw is also set to miss the first few games with a calf injury. Tyrell Malacia is also waiting to return after suffering a set back in his recovery from a knee injury.

#2 Reece James

Reece James is beginning to become a problem for Chelsea. He would have been suspended for the first three games anyway and has also suffered a hamstring injury during training and will be back only after the first international break. Axel Disasi has also missed pre season action with a hip/pelvic injury. The Blues were massively injury hit last season, but things look brighter this time. James is priced at £5.0m.

#3 Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to miss the first game of the season against Brighton with a groin problem. The £5.0m priced 22 year has been in demand this summer window but it looks like he’ll stay with the Toffees for now.

Fellow defender Michael Keane is also in a race against time to get fit for the game. Nathan Patterson and Youssef Chermiti remain longer-term absentees for Sean Dyche’s side.

#4 Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish missed Man City’s Community Shield win over Man United on the weekend and faces an uphill battle to be fit for their season opener against Chelsea next week. The £6.5m priced winger experienced some discomfort after a knock suffered in training. This is going to be a big season for Grealish and he will have a point to prove after being left out of England’s Euros squad. He also has new signing Savio and the emerging Oscar Bobb to contest for a spot in the side.

#5 Richarlison

Richarlison has been out for a while with a calf injury, having missed the entirety of Brazil’s Copa America campaign. Ange Postecoglou said he expects him to return to training in the next week. It remains to be seen what happens with him as Spurs have a new big money signing in Dominic Solanke to play up top. The Brazilian though could be a differential pick at £7.0m.

#6 Sven Botman

Newcastle’s Dutch defender Sven Botman has been a very popular pick among FPL managers in the past given his price and Newcastle’s solid defence. The £4.5 m priced defender however is expected to be out till the new year with a knee injury. Newcastle also have a few other injuries in the form of Jamal Lascelles and Matt Targett in defence, the young Lewis Miley in midfield and Callum Wilson in attack.

#7 Bart Verbruggen

Dutch keeper Bart Verbruggen is expected to miss the first two matches of the season after picking up an unspecified injury with the Netherlands during Euro 2024. The £4.5m priced keeper could be great asset moving forward however. Brighton have a number of injuries with Julio Enciso picking up a new one in the Olympics and Solly March, Evan Ferguson and Pervis Estupinan all still some time away from returning to action.

#8 Igor Thiago

Brentford new big money signing Igor Thiago is set to be out of action till later this year after suffering a meniscus injury during a pre season win over WImbledon last month. He is priced in the game at £6.0m. This however does mean that Brentford will keep Ivan Toney this transfer window. The Bees also have other injury issues in the form of defenders Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry, who missed a lot of last season. Josh Dasilva is also missing following knee surgery in February.

#9 Matheus Cunha

Brazilian Matheus Cunha is a good FPL prospect at £6.5m. However the forward suffered a hamstring issue in pre season and is a doubt for their first league game against Arsenal. It is not believed to be anything major however and Wolves boss Gary O’Neil is still hopeful that the attacker can play some part at the Emirates.

#10 Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy is back in the Premier League and in FPL. At £5.5m, he could definitely be an useful differential option. However he’s not available immediately from the beginning as an injury he picked up in pre season will keep him out for the first few weeks. Concerningly for Leicester City, his backup, Patson Daka was subbed off in their pre-season clash against Lens and was seen wearing a protective boot. Conor Coady also picked up an injury in training.
