Former Chelsea player blasts new owners for decision to sell Conor Gallagher

Emmanuel Petit has taken shots at Chelsea for their decision to sell Conor Gallagher. He believes that the Blues should be looking to keep the Englishman and should be a part of Enzo Maresca’s squad.

While speaking to Android Poker Apps, Petit claimed that Gallagher is getting forced out like Mason Mount last summer. He added that the midfielder was just become Cole Palmer as Chelsea’s best player last season and is not being treated well. He said:

“Chelsea should try to keep Conor Gallagher. In modern football, sometimes you don’t have an Englishman in the starting XI and Chelsea need his English presence in the squad. It really reminds me of the Mason Mount situation, both players were happy to stay at the club and both have been forced out. Gallagher, alongside Cole Palmer, was the only positive player last season.”

Petit went on to state that he was happy to see Gallagher leaving the Premier League, as it would have hurt Chelsea if he had played against them regularly. He is still not pleased with the club getting rid of their best midfielder to accommodate the unknown stars and said:

“Even if he leaves Chelsea, I don’t want to see him leave the Premier League – he deserves more than what’s happening to him with Atletico Madrid. Gallagher belongs in England, he’s built up his career through loan moves and then became captain at Chelsea, he deserves better than this. Why are Chelsea getting rid of their best midfielder for loads of unknown young stars? It’s a massive gamble to splash millions on these foreign players, if I was Gallagher I’d be so pissed off, it’s a pity,” he added.

Gallagher has agreed terms to join Atletico Madrid and was in Spain last week to complete the move. However, a final minute hurdle saw the transfer stall and is currently depended on the Blues agreeing a deal with the Spanish side for Joao Felix.

Chelsea have signed Moisés Caicedo, Roméo Lavia, Enzo Fernández, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall under the new owners with Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Omari Kellyman are also new additions but were not a part of the squad for the opening match of the season against Manchester City. The club has also signed Lesley Ugochukwu and Andrey Santos, but they have moved on loan to Southampton and RC Strasbourg for the season.

The midfield is packed despite letting go of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ethan Ampadu, N’Golo Kanté, Tiemoué Bakayoko, Billy Gilmour, Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley and Jorginho in the last 3 windows. The Blues have two teenage talents joining next summer – Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian- and they are also good at playing in attacking midfield roles.
