Forbes releases updated list of Most Valuable Football Clubs in the world
Forbes has announced an updated list of the most valuable football clubs in the world, with most of the regular clubs part of the list.
Real Madrid leads the 10-team list for the third consecutive year with a valuation of $6.6 billion. Manchester United are a close second with a valuation of $6.55 billion, with Barcelona completing the top three, valuated at $5.6 billion.
Without further ado, let’s take a detailed look at the list.
Forbes’ list of most valuable football clubs: Top 10
The top three have retained their spots in recent history, but the growth and success of the clubs below them has narrowed the gap.
Los Blancos have topped this list for the eighth time in the last 11 years, generating tremendous revenue through their success on the pitch. Since 2014, Real have won 14 international trophies and could add one more when they face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final on June 1.
In second and slowly falling from grace are Manchester United, whose supporters’ anger over the lack of trophies, as well as the Glazer family’s refusal to give up control of the club, have caused stocks’ value to plummet. Then we have Barcelona, who have struggled financially for the last few years, but still maintain their position.
In fourth, behind Barca, are English giants Liverpool, who are valued at $5.37 billion. Behind them in fifth place are Premier League rivals Manchester City at $5.1 billion.
Bayern Munich sit in sixth place as the only German club in the top 10, valued at $5 billion. Following them are the only French club on the list – Paris Saint-Germain with a valuation of $4.4 billion. Completing the list are three London giants, Tottenham Hotspur ($3.2bn), Chelsea ($3.13bn) and Arsenal ($2.6bn).
Here is a tabular representation of the same.
Rank | Club Name | Valuation (in $) |
1 | Real Madrid | 6.6 bn |
2 | Manchester United | 6.55 bn |
3 | Barcelona | 5.6 bn |
4 | Liverpool | 5.37 bn |
5 | Manchester City | 5.1 bn |
6 | Bayern Munich | 5.0 bn |
7 | Paris Saint-Germain | 4.4 bn |
8 | Tottenham Hotspur | 3.2 bn |
9 | Chelsea | 3.13 bn |
10 | Arsenal | 2.6 bn |
Notable clubs outside the top 10
Just outside the top 10 are four European giants. Juventus ($2.05bn), Borussia Dortmund ($1.98bn), Atletico de Madrid ($1.6bn) and AC Milan ($1.43bn) take up spots 11-14, with Major League Soccer (MLS) side LAFC in 15th, valued at $1.2bn.
Inter Milan are 18th with a valuation of $1bn, while former Premier League giants Aston Villa ($800m) and Newcastle United ($795m) sit in 22nd and 23rd positions respectively.
It is also worth noting that there are eight teams from the MLS ranked from 16-30, showing how quickly several clubs in the United States and Canada are growing to match the financial muscle of their European counterparts.
