Feyenoord vs Roma Preview, Prediction and Betting Tips

Feyenoord vs Roma Match Preview

Dutch side Feyenoord will host Italian side AS Roma in the first leg of their Europa League Knockout round play-offs on Thursday, February 15.

The hosts enter this game on the back of a strong run of form. They have lost just once in their last 10 games across competitions, winning seven and drawing two games. They are currently second in the Dutch Eredivisie with 49 points from 21 games and look formidable. Feyenoord have kept clean sheets in each of their last five games and will be tough to break down as their defence looks solid. Their last game was a 2-0 win over cross-town rivals Sparta Rotterdam and they will look to keep the streak going.

Roma, on the other hand, have shown a mixed run of form over the past few weeks. They have won five of their last 10 games but have also lost four and drawn one. The Italian side recently sacked Jose Mourinho but have shown decent form under Daniele De Rossi. They are currently sixth in Serie A with 38 points from 24 games. Having kept just one clean sheet in their last five games and having lost 4-2 to Inter Milan last time out, they will look to do well in Europe.

On that note, let’s take a look at the team news and predicted lineups from both camps.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Manager Arne Slot will be without a few of his key players for the upcoming run of games. Quinten Timber (concussion), Santiago Gimenez (calf), Justin Bijlow (calf) and Gernot Trauner (hamstring) will be out for this game.

The team has adapted very well without their primary goal threat Gimenez, who has 21 goals and five assists in 28 appearances so far this season. Slot will stick with the same XI that won their last game in the league.

Predicted XI: Timon Wellenreuther (GK), Lutsharel Geertruida (C), Thomas Beelen, David Hancko, Quilindschy Hartman, Mats Wieffer, Ramiz Zerrouki, Yankuba Minteh, Calvin Stengs, Igor Paixao, Ayase Ueda.

Manager Daniele De Rossi will have most of his squad fit and available for their upcoming knockout game. However, long-term absentee Tammy Abraham (cruciate ligament) remains sidelined and could make his much-awaited return in the next few weeks.

The Italian has stuck with a fairly unchanged XI over the course of his last few games and will do the same next time. Stephan El Shaarawy will look to get on the scoresheet having scored in their last outing.

Predicted XI: Rui Patricio (GK), Rick Karsdrop, Gianluca Mancini, Dean Huijsen, Angelino, Bryan Cristante, Leandro Paredes, Lorenzo Pellgrini (C), Paulo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku, Stephan El Shaarawy.

Feyenoord vs Roma Head-to-Head & Prediction

Last 5 Games Head-to-head

  • Roma 4-1 Feyenoord (04/23)
  • Feyenoord 1-0 Roma (04/23)
  • Roma 1-0 Feyenoord (05/22)
  • Feyenoord 1-2 Roma (02/15)
  • Roma 1-1 Feyenoord (02/15)

As you can see, these two sides have met just five times in their competitive history. Roma lead the head-to-head with three wins to Feyenoord’s one, with the team playing out just one draw.

Three of their meetings have seen both teams score, while three meetings have also had fewer than three goals. Roma are unbeaten at home while they have one win and one defeat in their last two visits to Rotterdam.

All these trends point towards another tight game in the first leg, which could lead to an entertaining draw. Both teams will be eager to have a go since the away goals rule doesn’t apply anymore.

Prediction: Feyenoord 2-2 Roma.
