Fernando Torres scores for Liverpool Legends in a nostalgic moment Anfield

Liverpool legend Fernando Torres had a nostalgic moment at Anfield as he scored a fantastic goal for Liverpool legends against Ajax Legends in a friendly game.

Fernando Torres goal: A memorable goal in front of the Kop

Fernando Torres dawned the red of Liverpool for four beautiful years bringing joy to the Merseyside fans. El Nino scored 81 goals in his 142 appearances for Liverpool, etching his name into the history books of the Reds. In his time at Liverpool, his partnership with midfield legend Steven Gerrard saw the duo break barriers of beauty and records, too.  So when it was announced Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard will feature in the Liverpool Legends vs Ajax Legends, fans made sure to make their way to the Kop to see their beloved El Nino score hopefully from a ‘Stevie’ assist. And as expected El Nino delivered.

Ajax Legends took an early lead in the second minute at Anfield stunning the fans at the Kop. Despite creating a plethora of opportunities, Liverpool failed to score an equalizer leaving the door open for Ajax to score another goal just before halftime. With the game slipping away, a re-energized Liverpool entered the pitch in the second half and began a sensational comeback. Liverpool scored early in the second half through Gregory Vignal. Liverpool continued their dominance and scored two goals in succession through Djibrial Cisse and Nabil El Zhar. However, the Fernando Torres goal everybody was waiting for came at the last.

Leading 3-2 on the night Liverpool legends had another chance to score and they progressed through some skillful display. The ball found its way to El Nino who managed to perfectly squeeze the ball into goal away from the keeper to seal the game with a 4-2 scoreline. The goal by Torres saw the Kop burst into cheers as the striker slid towards the corner to do his iconic celebration. The goal and the following celebration was a trip down memory lane for fans and was a nostalgic moment for all.

The cherry on the top was Steven Gerrard running behind Torres to greet him in celebration just like the old days. Several even managed to click an image of Torres sliding into celebration and Gerrard in the background. 

A nostalgic night for Fernando Torres at Anfield

Apart from the iconic duo of Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard coming together, the match also brought back many Liverpool icons back to Anfield. In a game overrun by emotions, it was hard for anybody watching the game not to feel nostalgic and reminisce about the old days. However, apart from nostalgia, the match also contributed to an important cause as the earnings from the match would be used for a charitable cost. The night also saw Sven-Goran Eriksson, a legendary Swedish manager, live his dream of coaching the Reds at Anfield. Talk about culture and nostalgia!
