Will Ferland Mendy Play Against Villarreal CF in La Liga?
Real Madrid have succumbed to a lot of injuries in the 2024-2025 season and now Ferland Mendy is on that extensive list. However, they remain steady and fully concentrated on their La Liga and UEFA Champions League run which are their main title ambitions this season.
Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 4-2 on penalties in an intense Madrid derby in the second leg of the Round Of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. Although Real Madrid managed to get the win and secure a quarter-final meetup with Arsenal, Ferland Mendy suffered an injury that sidelined him from the match further.
News On Ferland Mendy’s Inclusion In The Squad
In the 83rd minute against Atletico Madrid, Ferland Mendy suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg which sidelined him from the match. Further reports concluded that Mendy will miss Madrid’s La Liga clash against Villarreal and Leganes and their Copa Del Rey clash against Real Sociedad as well. If everything goes well and better than their estimated recovery timeline then Ferland Mendy can make it back for Real Madrid’s first-leg clash against Arsenal.
The Frenchman has faced many injury issues over the years because of which he has never reached the potential or consistency that he can. However, this is not a time where Carlo Ancelotti has the luxury to choose amongst players and invest the time to assess, evaluate, and implement since Real Madrid have injury issues.
Real’s injury issues are mainly in their backline as well since they are already looking for a new right-back since Dani Carvajal is quite old now. Ferland’s injury is another concern for the season which will force Ancelotti to either play Camavinga as left-back or play Fran Garcia as left-back.
The club has already addressed Ferland Mendy’s injury stating that:
“Following examinations conducted by our medical team, Ferland Mendy has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the left hamstring.”
