Federico Redondo’s injury and his expected return date
Inter Miami have been dealt another injury blow as the club returns to action this weekend in the Major League Soccer (MLS) on Saturday (Mar 30). Already without Lionel Messi for the clash against New York City, the Herons will be without star midfielder Federico Redondo. The son of former Real Madrid player, Fernando Redondo, Federico will be out for the next two months having sustained a knee injury. His absence is now likely to force Sergio Busquets to play a more important role for the side.
Federico Redondo injury
Currently sitting second in the MLS on goal difference, Miami are already without Messi who is not available for selection due to his own injury issues. In a release, Miami said: “Redondo has suffered an injury to his left lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and is expected to be sidelined for approximately eight weeks.”
Redondo, an Argentine U-23 international, was away with the national side and did not have an issue until he returned to the club. Upon his return, it was revealed that he has suffered an LCL injury which will see him miss at least 6-8 weeks of action in the MLS and could next feature in the last week of May.
It has been little over a month since Redondo made his move to the MLS with Miami having penned a four-year contract for a reported transfer fee of $8 million. Redondo was signed from Argentinos Juniors academy where he flourished for the side which prompted Gerardo Martino’s side to get his signature ahead of the latest season.

So far Redondo has made four appearances for the Herons and is considered a long-term option for the defensive midfielder. He is considered the next Sergio Busquets on the Inter Miami side, however, it is the latter who will have to fill the shoes of the junior for the time being.
Inter Miami get ready for the next quest
This weekend, the Herons will take on NYCFC in Eastern Conference play. Inter Miami will be without two of its best players, Lionel Messi and Redondo, due to injuries. But Marcelo Weigandt, a new player at the club this week, might ignite them this weekend. As things stand, only one point separates top-placed Cincinnati and fifth-placed Toronto in the MLS standings.
A win for Inter Miami will be crucial as they look to keep pace in the title challenge. They are the bookie’s favourites to win the MSL but will have to overcome the injury issues first before mounting the challenge.
