FC Barcelona suffers fresh blow as Dani Olmo injures his hamstring
Dani Olmo is going through a torrid time. While the case about his registration goes on between La Liga, the RFEF and FC Barcelona, with his future hung in balance, the Spanish attacking midfielder has picked up yet another injury. A statement from the club read that Olmo had picked up a right soleus strain post the Getafe game which Barca drew 1-1 to worsen their bid for the Spanish league title. The statement also said that he will miss Barcelona’s next game against Benfica in the Champions League, and post that he will be subject to further tests and that his progress will determine his return to action.
So far this season, he has been on and off with Barcelona. Whenever he’s played, he’s been really good most of the time. He has 9 goal contributions in all competitions this season. Most of the time, he has played in the number #10 position just behind Robert Lewandowski. Interestingly, recently he played as a false 9 against Real Betis in the Copa del Rey. He turned out to be excellent in the role and even provided two assists as Barcelona scored 5. Barcelona won’t have too many problems with this injury though as right now Hansi Flick seems to have found a liking to Gavi in that position. They also have the likes of Fermin Lopez, Pedri and Raphinha too, who can play in that position. Olmo will hope that by the time he returns from injury, his registration drama will have been resolved.

When is Dani Olmo expected to return?
Like previously mentioned, Olmo will miss the next game against Benfica midweek for sure. In addition, he might miss a few more games. For all of Olmo’s footballing intelligence and the undeniable quality he brings to the table, he has already been someone who is quite prone to getting injured. At the start of the season, he already missed over a month of action through injuries. Since the beginning of the 2023/24 season, Olmo has missed over a 100 days of action and as many as over 30 games through injuries. If the former La Masia graduate is to achieve success at Barcelona, who he has claimed are ‘the club of his life’, both him and the club must find the formula to improve his fitness and cut out the niggling injuries.
