Fantasy Premier League GW5: Key Injury Updates and Team News

The Premier League 2024/25 season will enter its fifth matchday this weekend. There are already several talking points for the fans as well as for the Fantasy Premier League Managers, who are planning their XI in light of fresh injury updates. Here is the respective injury update of all the 20 Premier League clubs.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta will have Declan Rice back for the game against Manchester City after the England international served his suspension on matchday four. Unfortunately, club captain, Martin Ødegaard is out for several weeks with an ankle injury. Mikel Merino (shoulder injury), and Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee injury) are also ruled out. Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko remain in doubt. Riccardo Calafiori and Bukayo Saka will be available after their recent injury scares.

Aston Villa

Villa and Unai Emery will be without four key players on Saturday. Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings, Robin Olsen, and Matty Cash will all remain on the sidelines owing to respective injury woes. The four players missed the Champions League outing against Young Boys and will not recover in time for the Wolves encounter.

Bournemouth

American midfielder, Tyler Adams will have to continue to wait for his first appearance of the season. Adams will remain on the sidelines due to a back injury. Dango Ouattara is also expected to be out due to a knock. The rest of the squad is fit and available for selection.

Brentford

Thomas Frank has a plethora of absentees to deal with for the big game against Tottenham Hotspur. Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Josh Dasilva, Igor Thiago, Mathias Jensen, Gustavo Gomes, Thiago Rodrigues, and Yoane Wissa are all injured and unavailable. One positive update will be the availability for defender, Kristoffer Ajer.

Brighton & Hove Albion

The Seagulls will be without the services of James Milner (hamstring), Joao Pedro (knock), Matthew O’Riley (ankle), and Solly March (knee). The participation of Brajan Gruda is also a major doubt for the contest against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Joel Veltman will be available for selection again.

Chelsea

The Blues were handed the devastating news of Reece James remaining on the sidelines for an extended period. The right-back’s return is delayed indefinitely. Enzo Fernandez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are uncertain due to illness. Malo Gusto, Omari Kellyman, and Romeo Lavia are guaranteed absentees for Enzo Maresca and his men.

Crystal Palace

Oliver Gasner will be without Chadi Riad (Knee injury), Matheus Franca (Broken Rib), and Trevoh Chalobah (Leg injury) when his team welcomes Manchester United on Saturday. Cheick Doucoure is also ruled out with a toe injury. Adam Wharton is expected to retain his place in midfield.

Everton

Sean Dyche will have a long list of absentees for matchday five. His coaching staff will travel to Leicester without Armando Broja, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Garner, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Nathan Peterson, Seamus Coleman, Vitalii Mykolenko, and Youssef Chermiti. That is a huge headache for the former Burnley boss, whose team is struggling at the bottom of the league table and is in dire need of points.

Fulham

For Fulham, the only injured player will be Carlos Vinicius, who picked up a knock last week. Marco Silva will be delighted to have the rest of his squad available for selection.

Ipswich Town

Kieran McKenna has a short injury list ahead of the trip to Southampton. Harry Clarke and Nathan Broadhead are the only two reported absentees, owing to an Achilles tendon and hamstring injury respectively.

Leicester City

Patson Daka and Jakub Stolarczyk, both suffering from ankle injuries, are expected to miss the match against Everton. Steve Cooper has the rest of the players available at his disposal, barring any last-minute fitness woes.

Liverpool

Liverpool and Arne Slot continue to work through the foot injury of Harvey Elliott. The youngster broke his foot in early September and is not expected to return until the end of October.

Manchester City

The reigning champions played out a long and tiring 0-0 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday. Unfortunately, for Pep Guardiola, there is little scope for rotation as the club braces itself for Arsenal on Sunday. The Catalan coach will be required to name his strongest XI. Kevin De Bruyne had to be taken off against Inter and is uncertain for Sunday. Rodri will make his first start of the Premier League season. Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb continue to remain long-term absentees with hamstring and leg injuries respectively.

Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has had to endure a long and unfortunate list of injured players since the pre-season. Lenny Yoro (Leg), Luke Shaw (Calf), Tyrell Malacia (Knee) and Victor Lindelof (Muscle) are ruled out against Crystal Palace. Mason Mount and Rasmus Højlund are back in training but are not expected to be called up by the Dutch coach until they reach 100% fitness.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United fans will have to witness their team negate the Fulham threat without Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis Miley, and Sven Botman. The Swedish striker is suffering from an eye injury and will be in a race against time to make it for the game on Saturday. The medical staff is unlikely to risk Isak with a long season ahead.

Nottingham Forest

Forest will be without Danilo (Ankle), Ibrahim Sangare (Knock), and Willy Boly (Calf) for the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion. The rest of the squad is injury-free and in contention to start on Sunday.

Southampton

Gavin Bazunu (Achilles tendon injury), Juan Larios (Physical discomfort), and Kamaldeen Sulemana (Ankle injury) will be the names on Southampton’s injury list on matchday five. Fantasy Premier League managers will also have to factor in the absence of Jack Stephens who will be out due to a suspension.

Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Posetcoglou will miss the services of Richarlison and Wilson Odobert. The former is out until the end of this month while the latter is not expected to return until mid-October. Timo Werner and Yves Bissouma are a doubt and a final decision on their participation will be made by the coach in the pre-match press conference.

West Ham United

West Ham United will host Chelsea in what promises to be a crucial matchup on Saturday. Niclas Fullkrug and Emerson are the two names who will not be on the squad list for the Hammers.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Enso Gonzalez, Boubacar Traore, Sasa Kalajdzic, Toti Gomes, Rayan Alt-Nouri, Andre, and Nelson Semedo will miss the trip to Villa Park. It is a horrible piece of news for Wolves, who are desperately trying to climb out of the relegation zone and are due to face an inform Aston Villa away from home.
