Fabrizio Romano trashes rumours about Conor Gallagher demanding ” too high salary” to stay at Chelsea
With his contract expiring next year, Conor Gallagher is facing a tough situation involving his employer club Chelsea. It is reported that the 24-year old asked too much salary in his upcoming contract deal with The Blues. But latest information from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggested the opposite.
Romano spoke on his X account clearing that the case is not about Gallagher asking for a high wage. Instead, Todd Boehly and his men are finding the best solution for the player in the future taking into account the Financial Fair Play rules.

“I’m aware that there have been claims about Conor Gallagher’s salary demands being a problem for Chelsea and holding up an agreement over a new contract,” said the Italian journalist on his X. “My understanding, however, is that it’s not about Gallagher asking for crazy money or anything unreasonable for his new deal.
“What I’m told is that it’s about Chelsea deciding what they want to do with Gallagher and also taking into account the Financial Fair Play situation, but saying that Gallagher is asking for “too high” salary is not accurate as far as I understand.”
Mauricio Pochettino intends to keep Conor Gallagher
Speaking to the CaughtOffside, Romano added that the London-based club are keen to keep Gallagher. The Epsom-born midfielder has scored four in 38 matches for Chelsea, while for the national team he had played 11 games since debuting in 2021.
Back in February, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino guaranteed that Gallagher would not go anywhere, adding that there would not be any price that could match his value. Also, with what he has shown for the Stamford Bridge crowd so far, it is hard to see such a scenario happening in the near future.
Mauricio Pochettino on Conor Gallagher’s importance
“He’s a player with great commitment with the team,” Poch said via SB Nation. “Always trying to compensate every situation in an offensive and defensive situation and that is priceless to have a player like him.
“What [Conor] told me was to stay at Chelsea. But then it’s about him and the club. But I’m not suffering with this type of thing; he still has one year more on his contract. But I think that is a matter for him and the club.”
Gallagher is currently with the England squad prior to the international friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium. His impressive run with Chelsea this season was one of the reasons he got a call from Gareth Southgate.
