Everton 1–1 Arsenal Player Ratings: Both Teams Share Spoils After an Intense 90 Minutes
Goodison Park welcomed the first match of the weekend that saw Everton go head-to-head with Arsenal on 5th April 2023. Sitting at 15th, all the Toffees wanted was to get the important three points against the Gunners. The game saw a 1-1 score with goals from Trossard and Ndiaye.
The match started with both teams struggling to gain control of the game. The 7th minute saw Everton almost break out from the Arsenal defense and make an opening, but eventually it was dealt with by the Arsenal defenders.
Declan Rice almost scored from the corner flag when he took the set piece in the 13th minute, but the ball went over the post after being headed out by Everton defenders.
Normally, by the 20th minute mark, one team controls the pace of the game. However, that was not the case as both teams struggled to dominate the game till then.
The game started to heat up as the 23rd minute saw Trossard running with the ball, having two options in the form of his teammates. However, the Belgian failed to find any of them, and the two-man Everton defense kept the danger at bay.
The 33rd minute saw Arsenal going forward with Sterling. He had an option in the form of Trossard. He passed the ball to the Belgian, and Trossard stepped outside and kept his composure. He wrapped his left foot on the ball and slotted it in the far corner for a confident finish. It was game on and 0-1, advantage for the visitors.
It was like “No kicks can have an Everton player booked” as a 42nd minute showed another instance of Everton’s players getting away after kicking an opposition player without touching the ball. After the 45th minute, 6 additional minutes were added. The score stood 0-1 by the end of the first half.
Unsurprisingly, controversy introduced itself at the beginning of the second half as the referee awarded the hosts a penalty out of his hat. Even VAR confirmed the decision. Ndiaye stepped up and made the score 1-1.
Declan Rice had a go from a free-kick in the 63rd minute. His thumping shot was stopped by Pickford. Ever since then, the game went back and forth with Arsenal spending most time in Everton’s box. However, no great chances were created by either of these teams.
After the normal 90 minutes, 4 additional minutes were added. Incompetency was there to be seen in the last moments, as well as the referee blew the whistle with a lot of seconds left on the clock. After the appeal, he changed the decision, and the whistle eventually blew. Here are the Everton vs Arsenal player ratings.
Everton Player Ratings

GK- Pickford- 5/10
It was his 100th game in a row for the Toffees. Had nothing to do when his team conceded the first goal. However, he managed to save his team on multiple occasions with his saves. Rose to the occasion to deny the Gunners to regain the lead multiple times in the second half.

It wasn’t a surprise to see him get away from the horrible challenge in the 4th minute. He was nowhere near the ball, but the referee found the challenge not punishable even when he took out the Arsenal player.

CAM- Doucoure- 5/10
The star man of Everton maintained a total of 100% passing accuracy in the first half. However, he only made 4 passes. He won 3 out of his 5 ground duels. He was instrumental in Everton’s attack.
LM- Ndiaye- 6/10
Even though he had a 0.11xG and 0.01xA, he was very much instrumental in the counter attacks of Everton. However, Toffees did not see much end product from these attacks. He scored the equalizer at the beginning of the second half. He was subbed off in the 74th minute.
ST- Beto- 6/10
Was the main man for his team in the afternoon. On multiple occasions, he almost created a chance out of nothing for the hosts. However, there was no conversion to his efforts for the major part of the first half. He was subbed off in the 64th minute.
Sub- Garner- 5/10
He was introduced to give his team a pair of fresh legs. Played his part and made sure the team got the valuable 1 point from this tough fixture.
Sub- Broja- 4.5/10
Came in the 64th minute as the manager wanted to win the game rather than settling for a draw. He was the busiest player of his team since he came on.

Came along with Young. The idea was the same: the manager wanted these players to help the team see the game off. Played his part well since he came on.

Came in the 86th minute. David wanted him, along with his teammates, to have more control of the game. The manager was happy with his performance in the later stages of the game.

GK- Raya- 6/10
Had nothing to do in the first half as his defense held their ground well. However, he contributed a lot to the game as the goalkeeper was seen having a total of 50 touches in the game.
RB- White- 5.5/10
The right-back looked very comfortable in the match today. However, with Everton’s press getting the best of him, Arteta took him off in the 60th minute. Won 1 out of his 3 ground duels before he was subbed off.
CB- Saliba- 6.5/10
Saliba was seen going forward more this afternoon, which is not something you see every other day. Perhaps Arteta wanted the lead before going into the second half. Had a strong command of his box any time he was needed to have that.
CB- Kiwior- 6/10
Stepped up and been a reliable partner for Saliba this afternoon. Like his center back partner, he maintained a high line. Been great with his defensive duties in the later stages of the game.
LB- Lewis-Skelly -4/10
The youngster needed to up his game for the evening, which was nowhere near seeing as the left-back was making a lot of missed passes. The youngster was subbed off in the 75th minute.

CM-Merino – 4/10

CM-Rice- 5/10
One moment, it seemed like the Englishman would score from the corner flag. He didn’t have much control of the game, which indeed bothered him. He dropped into his CDM position after Jorginho was subbed off and Odegaard was introduced.
LW-Sterling-4/10
His in-field antics have been so predictable that even the referee saw right through his appeals every time he was dismissed by the Everton defenders. He was subbed off at the beginning of the second half.
RM-Nwaneri-4.5/10
While he stepped up for his team, the magic in the wing was missing this afternoon as the fans were missing Saka in the first half. He was subbed off as Arteta wanted to introduce Martinelli along with Saka on the other flank.
ST-Trossard-5/10
He had a clear opening in the 23rd minute. All that attack needed was a pass from him to give his team the lead, but the Belgian failed to find his teammate. However, he was quick to redeem himself as he scored the first goal in the 33rd minute.
Sub- Saka- 5/10
Came at the beginning of the second half. He had an impact on the game right away. However, the Starboy couldn’t give a different outcome.

Came on in the 60th minute to replace Ben White, who was seen struggling in the second half. He was introduced to provide more stability.
Sub- Odegaard- 4/10
Came in to replace Jorginho in the 70th minute. Arteta wanted his team to get their lead back and win the fixture. Had a half chance after he came on but missed the target.
Sub- Martinelli- 4.5/10
Even though the Brazilian was introduced to change the course of the game, all he had were a few flashes here and there. Was not as authoritative as he would like to be.
Sub- Tierney- 4.5/10
Arteta was just not satisfied with the scoreline. He introduced Tierney and took off Lewis-Skelly to try to change the fortunes of the game.
Manager- Arteta- 4/10
Arteta seemed to be displeased with his team, especially in the second half. Was unhappy with a lot of decisions but he kept his calm.
Sportsdunia’s man of the match is Trossard.
