Matchday four of the UEFA Nations League will include Estonia welcoming Sweden for a clash in group one of the third division of the competition. Unsurprisingly, Sweden is at the top of the group with seven points from three games while Estonia is at third place thanks to three points so far. The Estonians beat Azerbaijan on Friday by a 3-1 margin while Sweden was held to a 2-2 draw by Slovakia. The two nations met each other in the reverse fixture in September with Sweden winning 3-0.
The recent form of Estonia has been a disappointing one. In the last six fixtures, the national team has managed just a couple of victories to go with three defeats and a draw. Estonia’s start to the 2024/25 Nations League was a horrendous one, losing to Slovakia and Sweden on the opening two matchdays. The 3-1 triumph over Azerbaijan has reignited a spark in the players which they hope will carry forward to the further games. Defensive woes have been worrying Estonia for a long time now, having not kept a clean sheet in 19 outings.
Sweden has accumulated three victories, a draw, and two defeats in its last six matches. During this time, Sweden scored 10 goals while conceding eight. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men have quickly recovered from the disappointment of missing out on the 2024 European Championship in Germany. The aim for the national side currently is to finish top of its Nations League group and earn a promotion to the second division. Fortunately, the journey is going well with Sweden enjoying a lead on the top thanks to a healthy goal difference.
Estonia National Football Team News
Maksim Paskotsi’s participation in the match is a doubt due to a knee injury. The right-back could last only 29 minutes against Azerbaijan and is unlikely to be risked by Jurgen Henn on Monday. The coach will be looking to field the same XI that got the win in the last game.
Sweden National Football Team News
For the Swedes, Eric Smith will not be available against Estonia, owing to a groin injury. The fans can expect numerous changes to the starting lineup with several of the first-team players having played the full 90 minutes against Slovakia.

Key Players to Watch in Estonia vs Sweden
Viktor Gyökeres (Sweden)
Viktor Gyökeres will be named in a two-man attack for Sweden alongside Dejan Kulusevski. Although the striker could not find the back of the net against Slovakia, he was one of the better players for his nation. Gyökeres created the most chances (four) in the match and also hit the woodwork once. Sweden will need to increase his involvement in the game against Estonia as he had the least touches of any outfield player against Slovakia. Viktor Gyökeres has enjoyed a tremendous season so far with 15 goals and three assists in 13 appearances.
Dejan Kulusevski (Sweden)
Dejan Kulusevski will be the key to Gyökeres operating seamlessly as a number nine. The Tottenham man drifts wide as the game progresses to open up space for his strike partner and enjoy the space on the wings. Kulusevski has been playing as a wide number eight for his club this season but his role with the national team is completely different. His pace and wonderful dribbling ability will be a menace for the Estonian defenders to negate.
Estonia vs Sweden Prediction
Sweden’s 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture just over a month ago outlines the vast difference in the levels of individual quality. Sweden is blessed with numerous world-class options in the starting XI and on the bench which will be enough to obtain the victory.
Predicted Score: Estonia 1-3 Sweden
