“I have three years left”: Haaland talks about his Manchester City future
The Norwegian hinted at staying at the club
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has said he still has three more years on his contract with the Premier League champions when asked about extending his terms. The Norwegian striker has been a crucial figure in Pep Guardiola’s swashbuckling squad since joining in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund.
In another prolific top-flight campaign that saw him net 27 times, Haaland was the driving factor behind City’s fourth consecutive league title. He also won the domestic Golden Boot for the second season running, adding yet another feather to his already bulging cap.
In a recent interview with Eirik Hjelvik onTV2, Haaland was questioned on his contract extension with City, to which he responded saying:
“I’ve had two fantastic years and have three years left. That’s really all I can say. Are there ongoing talks? That’s all I can say, what I just said.”
It’s unlikely to see Haaland leave City after only two seasons, as the striker appears happy with his time at the club right now. At 23, he is only getting started, and Guardiola sees him as an important part of City’s set-up for years to come.
No Haaland magic at Euros
With Norway unable to qualify for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024, Erling Haaland is one of the high-profile players who will be absent from the showpiece in Germany this month. With only 11 points in eight games, Norway finished third in Group A of the qualifiers. Of their 14 goals during the run, Haaland struck six, but it didn’t prove enough to seal their tickets for the European championship.
