Erling Haaland’s new deal with Manchester City facing release clause hindrance

Erling Haaland, a 24-year-old Norwegian star forward who needs no introduction is all set to sign his contract renewal deal with English Premier League giants Manchester City FC. But, all is not going smoothly with some conditions of the new deal.

Haaland signed for Manchester City after his release clause at Borussia Dortmund was triggered.

The star striker joined Manchester City in July 2022 from Borussia Dortmund, after his release clause was triggered for 60 million Euros. Now, it is the same issue of the release clause that is delaying Haaland’s renewal.

As per a report in El-Nacional – Spain, Haaland wants a release clause in his contract of 120 million Euros to be added. This small figure clause for a player of Haaland’s stature is not being approved by Manchester City, as the club fears that the sum would be met by any other club easily.

While multiple reports that a new contract is being finalized, it has been learned that Haaland is contracted to Manchester City for a wage of 375k pounds per week, and Daily Mail suggests the wage to rise to above 850k pounds per week. This raise will make the Norwegian forward the highest-paid player in the Premier League, surpassing teammate Kevin De Bruyne, who earns 425k pounds.

The player’s present deal expires on June 30, 2027, and Manchester City shall be eager to secure one of the finest talents of the present generation for longer. Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta and Man City need to find a mid-way soon, to make an extension possible.

The No. 9 has proved his greatness ever since his arrival at the club. For Manchester City, Haaland has 111 goal contributions (97 goals and 14 assists) in just 102 games already. He was also the highest goal-scorer of EPL last season. The club also sold another prolific striker Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid this summer, as they felt committed to give Haaland the maximum game time.
