Erling Haaland nets sensational hat-trick in Ipswich trashing
Manchester City star Erling Haaland struck an incredible hat-trick in their 4-1 win over Ipswich Town at the Etihad on Saturday. The Norwegian struck twice in the first half, including a penalty, before rounding off his treble with only two minutes of normal time remaining.
Aiming to make it two wins from two, City’s ambitions were dealt an early blow when Sammie Szmodics put Ipswich in front just seven minutes off the kick-off. The promoted side, playing in the Premier League for the first time, were looking for their first win, having gone down 2-0 to Liverpool on matchday one.
However, their joy was short-lived as Haaland converted a penalty just five minutes later. Kevin De Bruyne turned the match around with their second goal in the 14th minute, before the former added a third, another two minutes later.
In pure champions fashion, City had shrugged off their early deficit and were cruising towards another win. Although the Sky Blues took their feet off the pedal in the second half, Haaland popped up with a late third, making it 4-1 in the 88th minute to bring up his hat-trick too.
It was his first of the season but the seventh in the Premier League since joining City in 2022, and 10th overall. In just 101 appearances, he has 94 goals for the English champions, a testament to his blistering run of form.
Manchester City’s perfect start continues
Manchester City’s bid for an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title continued with a 4-1 comeback victory over Ipswich Town. Having beaten Chelsea 2-0 away from home on matchday one, Pep Guardiola’s champions have six points from six so far and sit atop the table once more. They play West Ham away from home in a potential banana skin in their next game.
